Swedish Girl Named Metallica

A Swedish court has ruled that the parents of a seven-month-old girl in Kungälv, Sweden can name their child Metallica, according to the Swedish newspaper GP.

The girl's parents wanted to give their daughter a name that combined their first names. After picking Metallica and checking twice with the Swedish tax agency Skatteverket if the name was acceptable, they were told that it shouldn't be a problem since there is already a girl in Sweden called Metallica.

When they filed Metallica as one of the girl's three first names, the Skatteverket suddenly objected, claiming that the name was inappropriate because a famous hard rock band bears that name and the fact that it's too close to the word "metal."

The parents filed an appeal with the district court, which has now ruled that the use of the name won't pose any problems for either the girl or anyone that she comes in contact with. One member of the jury objected to the ruling, claiming that the name probably will cause discomfort to the person who bears it.

This is one of the worst articles I've ever seen. Its almost like a deliberate attempt to start a flamefest. I mean, when we know that there is an issue considering 'copyright' and 'Metallica', there is obviously gonna be a mentioning of the Napster incident, therefore the incarnation of a flamefest. Uhm I'm swedish and can't see a swedish name that starts with "meta-" or something like that to combine two names. And I'm pretty sure that everyone under 30 in Sweden knows who Metallica are (like the rest of the world), so it's not a curious coincidence that the parents named their kid the same name as a famous band. Probably some hardcore fans that loves the band equally as their kid or something..

I'm sorry to break your perfect world bubble. But producing an album such as St. Anger cost millions of dollars. Just because the riffs weren't supertechnical doesn't means that the production cost suddenly got cut in half.

Lars and James and their ex-producer Bob Rock and Rick Rubin have all stated that their recent albums, including the current one, has cost- and for the current one, is costing- millions of dollars. Besides money doesn't just float in a bank. For a band where all the band members have families to support, morgages to pay,insurance payments to cancel, and the day to day shopping, this money gets lost very quickly. Now, I'm not saying that Metallica are suddenly just like the avarge joe in the financial department, but they aren't wrapped in Benjamins while bathing in gold as you think they are.

For a band where all the band members have families to support, morgages to pay,insurance payments to cancel, and the day to day shopping, this money gets lost very quickly. Now, I'm not saying that Metallica are suddenly just like the avarge joe in the financial department, but they aren't wrapped in Benjamins while bathing in gold as you think they are.
