System Of A Down Drummer Returns To Comics

System Of A Down drummer John Dolmayan told the Calgary Sun that he plans to launch an Internet-based comic-book company when the band goes on hiatus after this year's Ozzfest winds down. "It's my other passion ? I love music, and comics are what I've also been into since I was a kid," explained Dolmayan. "I'm a nerd, man. I'm staying true to my nerd roots."

During System Of A Down's long hiatus, the group's guitarist, Daron Malakian, will be launching a new band called Scars On Broadway and plans to work on their debut album this fall (read story on UG). Malakian told Billboard.com that System bassist Shavo Odadjian is likely to be part of the group.

Odadjian is also planning to collaborate musically with the Wu-Tang Clan (read story on UG).

Ozzfest kicks off in Seattle on June 29 and will wrap up on August 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida. System Of A Down is co-headlining most of the trek with Disturbed, with Ozzy Osbourne topping the bill on selected dates.

However, i am happy to see that everyone in the band is doing something creative and not just sitting around (Serj is running Serjical Strike records)

Toxicity is your favorite album I'm assuming, that's cool and all, but SOAD isn't interested in making Toxicity again.. or any of their albums. In pretty much every interview, when they talk about their sound they say that they aren't interested in making another one of their albums again. They're very progressive, so they'll never release anything that sounds quite like Toxicity. IMO, I think that all their albums are way better than most of the stuff out there. They are all different, which is what makes SOAD so unique. I mean, Hyp/Mez were really one album, and as a whole I think it was very very good, although a couple songs fell short. You just gotta take them for what they are, and no matter what the music sounds like, it's still the same borderline schizophrenic guys writing the songs, so they will still be well-written and cool.

Mesmerize/Hypnotize were great musically IMO. However, Serj needs to start writing the lyrics again, cause Daron sucks at it. Serj's lyrics all seemed a lot deeper and more poetic, which is why I personally prefer SOAD or Toxicity to the newer stuff.

whats serg gonna do for his little side project? i hope he just writes a whole bunch of system of a down songs and then shavo's and daron's band fails horribly and he's like look i got some motha F'n songs so come back and quit being a bitch. and then they come out with an awsome cd where serg sings on all of it and daron is just back ups again.....that'd be cool

hmmm im sur they'll make a new album in 2007 or 2008, they just wanted sum time off. lots of bands take breaks every once in a wile, an it makes sense, y not enjoy sum of ur success an spend sum time with family.

Also i think john dalmayan is one of the best drummers out ther: very underated he plays simple in some songs, crazy in others, dam fast in some, one of the best things is his diversity which loads of metal and punk drummers lack, john doesnt just have double kicking thru all ther songs or a fast kick-snare beat he is truly talented
