Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick has officially endorsed President Obama for re-election.
He shared his political stance in a statement to Gawker:
"I endorse Barack Obama. Perfect? No. But after inheriting the remnants of the Bush Administration - which was responsible for an illegal, trillion dollar war and a gutted economy - Obama has kept the auto industry alive, worked to improve the middle class and improve education."
Obama has often been widely criticised for his performance in the White House, but Skolnick says the President has been up against an uncooperative congress, noting
Osama Bin Laden was finally taken out under his rule.
"I'm not tied to the Democratic party in any way, its just an honest assessment. After 8 years of a President [George W. Bush] who could barely formulate a sentence, we now have someone well-spoken, intelligent and who has shown a lot of class and dignity.
"And in the face of unrelenting, unwarranted personal attacks unseen in the history of the US Presidency, Obama has never once stooped down to the level of his haters."
Skolnick joins what is becoming a trend for rock stars to share their political sentiments.
Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine recently backed Republican candidate Rick Santorum, though backtracked on his comments the following day, saying it wasn't an official endorsement.
So that's two rock stars backing both Republican and Democratic corners in the ring - anyone else?
Of course. Who could forget Lamb Of God's Randy Blythe, who is backing himself for President. His promises to the nation include killing the first enemy of any war in hand-to-hand combat, drinking beer and getting laid.
With Blythe in the mix, there's no doubt the Presidential race will be a close finish. Who will you back?
