The Darkness & Ozzy Knocked Off The Top

Little known US singer Gary Jules has beaten The Darkness and Ozzy/Kelly Osbourne, and many more to clinch the Christmas #1 song spot in the UK. 'Mad World' (a cover version of the 1982 hit by Tears For Fears which was used in the film Donnie Darko) by Gary Jules came out of nowhere to surprise bookies, and to nudge out fierce competition from Britain's two other present rock elites.

'Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bells End)' was widely expected to be The Darkness' first UK number one, as Ozzy/Kelly were knocked off the top spot and fell to down to 3rd earlier in the week.

Here's how it all ended up:

2. Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bells End) - The Darkness
3. Changes - Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne.

I don't know the guy, but a cover song should not be number one, and the song is boring. Needs double neck guitar solos. And singing robots...
The OZZY song was pretty good as well, but the Mad World track was just dull

Justin (of The Darkness) said that being Number One was irrelevant, it was the spirit of Christmas and the feeling you get from a song that are important.

And that is probably the heaviest Chrismas song I've heard since Rob Zombie's version of Jingle Bells

I've heard the song, i've slightly heard of Gary Jules, HE SUCKS!! If anyone THE DARKNESS SHOULD BE NUMBE ONE! That Mad World song is so depressing and makes me feel like radio has no meaning anymore. The Darkness forever, number two is still ok tho, bearing in mind this time last year no-one knew who they were.

I was lucky enuogh to catch a live performance of Mad World on Friday Night with Jonathon Ross (UK), and I ahev to say, as far as hauntingly beautiful songs go, yeah, it rules. Shame its a cover, but I really like that dude's style. I don't reckon it should have been christmas number 1, it kinda overshadows the happiness of this time of year, bvut its a great song.
