The Libertines Confirm Million Pound Reunion Fee

The Libertines have confirmed that they will receive in excess of £1million to play at the Reading And Leeds Festivals.

The group, who disbanded in 2004, have reformed in their original line-up for the event in August.

Appearing at a press conference in London, March 31, they were asked about reports they had been given a £1.5million reunion fee.

After revealing that the figure was actually £1.2million, singer Pete Doherty said: "What's appealing about the money is what's left over after tax – which, as it turns out, its luckily just enough to pay last year's tax bill."

Doherty then deflected a question that he could use the money to pay legal fees.

Barat also told journalists that the timing of the reunion "felt right".

"It’s not really our choice, its just finding the right moment," Doherty added.

"Any chance to play to as many people as possible - and Reading and Leeds is as good as place as any."

The band ended the press conference with an impromptu gig, which marked the first time the four members had played together in six years.

The Libertines will be joined on the Reading And Leeds line-up by headliners Guns N' Roses, Blink-182 and Arcade Fire.
