The Verve’s first album in over 10 years makes an incredible debut on the UK Album Charts.
With their first album in over 10 years, alternative-rock act The Verve made an impressive debut this week on the UK Album Charts with their latest album , “Forth“, reaching the number one spot.
Backed by the success of their single “Love Is Noise“, “Forth” is the first album by The Verve since 1997’s critically-acclaimed “Urban Hymns“, which spawned the mega-hit “Bittersweet Symphony“. Along with being the band’s first record in over a decade, it is also their first record since reuniting in 2007 from an eight year break-up.
Also debuting on the charts this week were metal band Slipknot, who secured the number two spot with their album “ All Hope Is Gone”. The Verve’s debut this week also knocked Irish pop band The Script down from first place to third. Coldplay’s “ Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends” also dropped 4 spots this week and is now at number eight.

: The Verve is coming back, it seems. I think their new album isn't as satisfying as Northern Soul, or, Urban Hymns.POSTED: 09/01/2008 - 10:24 am / quote |

woah there fanboy.
But seriously it's always worth noting their biggest hit wasn't even written by them, it was the orchestral version of Last Time by rolling stones with their own words put over it. Because if you don't bring it up you are giving the band too much credit.
With that aside i listened to the song and it is okay, it's original, but my mind wasn't blown.
It sorta seems like the media is trying to make this band sound better/more popular then they actaully are.

: these guys opened at a coldplay concert and the people around us were asking who the **** they were. i had no idea myself either, atleast until they started to play bittersweet symphony. These guys are just getting over hyped by the media to get some record sales going.POSTED: 09/01/2008 - 04:52 pm / quote |

: this is turning out like FOB... remember... spam news and reviews / interviews... i'm getting kinda sick of verve articles ... the band itself is quite good alright... and i dont want it to turn to the band mentioned abovePOSTED: 09/01/2008 - 05:07 pm / quote |

: it's pathetic that none of you know who The Verve are. if it wasn't for them you wouldn't even have bands like Coldplay. The Verve are back...and thats amazing for the music industry.
and to try to compare them to FOB, disgusting...know the history and who they are before you try to knock themPOSTED: 09/01/2008 - 05:42 pm / quote |

: ive been listening to alot of b side and single tracks lately, and a storm in heaven. if people actually gave them a chance i'm sure a lot of people would like them. maybe not in this forum though, the whole concept of spacey guitar work, reverberated vocals and groovy basslines is far too much for the average shredder to comprehend.POSTED: 09/02/2008 - 04:01 am / quote |

The problem with most people here is not the Verve's music, or that they "stole"/sampled music. It's that there is a whole world of guitar players here who are tired of UK fanboys hyping bands. Yes, the Verve are talented, and we always hear so much about Oasis, too.
Not to disrespect the talent and prestige these bands have built, they are being put on far too high a peg, and many people are in the business of knocking them back down. Honestly, I'd rather side with the "shredder" in this case.POSTED: 09/02/2008 - 04:15 am / quote |

: The Verve aren't really talented though, are they? Every song I've seen them play has been badly written, repetitive and mind-numbingly boring, with lyrics about how bad northern life it, except for the Verve, who are rockstars.
But then I suppose most fans of the Verve, casual and hardcore alike, are a bit simple, so they couldn't recognise something well written, and not written in part by a producer.POSTED: 09/02/2008 - 06:50 am / quote |
