Thom Yorke: Radiohead Albums Make Me A 'Difficult' Person

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has admitted that making albums turns him into a difficult person to live with.

The singer explained that his partner has so far not listened to latest album ’In Rainbows’ because she has to put up with the awkward character Yorke becomes while recording.

I think my missus isn’t ready to hear it [’In Rainbows’] yet. Having seen me go through the mill making it,Yorke told Rolling Stone. “It’s a difficult thing for her to watch me go through the whole process. She doesn’t like it. So she’s not exactly ready to listen to the music.

Ask if he thought his partner, Rachel Owen, would prefer it if he stopped making albums and stayed a happier person, Yorke agreed she probably would, adding that recording made him a difficult person to live with.

[Does making a record make me a difficult person] to live with? That’s about a 100% true, yes,” admitted the Radiohead man. “She does it, though.

Thanks for the info to NME.com.

Or maybe they LOVE each other and can find happiness and ways to make their marriage work in spite of difficulty? Jesus, stop reading about so much damn Paris Hilton.

Old news and i'm not surprised NME published it, they love making radiohead and other talented musicians look bad so they can flog the shit they love.

this has nothing to do with anything, so f#ckin what? I love Radiohead, but a worthless article. How about Van Halen f#ckin up their tour again, got my parents tickets for x-mas in Raleigh this weekend, but it's "postponed" so Eddie can get medical attention. That's a motherf*ckin article.

I love how people are so quick to assume that his wife into the money when they honestly have no idea what it's like for them. You do not live either of their lives, and there isn't even anything for you to go off of in thinking that about her.

You clearly do not know what it's like to be in a mature, committed relationship where one person chooses to live with another who is devoted to something that has such a changing effect, and at the very least consumes a great deal of time.

Really? This is surprising on two fronts because Rolling Stone is a really shitty magazine and i am surprised that they would have an interview with a good band. Haha, of course Radiohead are huge so that probably explains it.

Anyway, this isn't really front page news worthy i guess...i mean it's like, "hey, i'm difficult to live with sometimes"...okay?...that's it? Alllllrightythen.

I agree, Rolling stone just has some incredibly biased bastards writing all their hoo haw giving everything a either a shitty review or a good one provided the band is popular enough

Good for him. People ought to be more difficult. Struggle is what make art, passion, and life. Glad to know he's upfront about it and unashamed.

I quite like Radioheads music, but I can't really go for all this "awkward" and "fragile" crap when it comes to him making his precious music. You're supposed to enjoy making music but Yorke always has to dissappear up his own backside when he does because he thinks his music is so influential and life changing. Grow some balls man!

greggybhoy wrote on 03/05/2008 - 04:34 am / quote |
I should also add that if he thinks it's such a painful process to make music for the masses to consume, why sdoes he bother if it takes a little part of his soul away with every song he makes. I've just read the big Q magazine article on Radiohead and it's full of over sensitive garbage like this too.

ns9977a wrote on 03/05/2008 - 05:16 am / quote |
Just because he recognizes it as a painful process doesn't mean he doesn't see it as worthwhile. If anything, the reverse is closer to the truth. All great artists suffer greatly for their work, and they are nonetheless compelled.

Auals wrote on 03/05/2008 - 09:28 am / quote |
to Greggybhoy :

I'm currently recording stuff (home recordings but track by track) and it's taking a shit load of out of me. The songs really mean something to me. And I will put every inch of myself into every song just to make it sound how I want it to sound. I turn into a tired, pissy biatch every time I do it and I lock myself in my room for hours on end but I get it done. I do it not because I like feeling like a bitch but because I want it to sound right and I don't care how long it takes, or how pissed off I get before it gets to that stage.

On the same note, i'm not as brilliant as Thom so I should shut my mouth, but you get my point. I know bands who won't play certain songs because they hurt too much, I personally can't play a song I wrote everytime I go on stage because it kills me to sing it, and I can't ever imagine recording that song.

If you enjoy your music that's good for you, but not every song is going to be a simple joy ride through a storyline. He writes meaningful music, it hurts, stop being a macho bitch and go listen to your speed metal again (yes, cheap shot, you probably don't even listen to it, i just finished work, get over it)

NOW!!!!!

About the article, I like it, I like the idea of showing us what the artists are actually like. I get a kick out of watching the short you tube videos that bands put up of themselves recording, makes me feel like I can connect with the band more.

Anyway, that is all
