Travis Barker Settles Beverage Lawsuit

Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has tentatively settled a lawsuit against the Rockstar energy drink company over the use of his picture to promote the product.

Terms of the settlement were not disclosed in court papers filed Friday in Superior Court.

A call to Rockstar Beverage Corp.'s attorney was not immediately returned Monday. Barker's lawyer, Gregory Weisman, said both parties were still working out terms. He declined to elaborate until the deal is completed.

Barker's lawsuit claimed invasion of privacy, unfair competition and misappropriating his likeness to promote the product.

The lawsuit said the Rockstar Web site published a photo of the 32-year-old Barker "holding a can of one of Rockstar's beverages, and identifying him and his endorsement by name" without his consent.

I don't understand why people are blaming him... He didn't do anything wrong... a lot of the money he has is from endorcements and things like that. This is part of his job, and I'm pretty sure no one likes to be ripped off at their job...

I think he did nothing wrong actually. Personally, if I were a musician, I wouldn't like for companies to use my name without my consent, because I don't think I would endorse other companies for profit, as I think that's arrogant. It's like you're selling yourself as opposed to your music, which is what matters. I think Travis was certainly in the right in his lawsuit. What Travis is objecting to, is the use of his image and position to sell something he didn't want to endorse. The company could have contacted him, yet they didn't. What they are doing is completely illegal. If someone put my photo (Hehe.) on an energy drink, I'd be pissed. I'd want my image removed or compensation.

Travis is a pretty good drummer, I'd like to see some of you guys do what he does. It would be downright hilarious.

As much as everyone on this site seems to hate him, he is a good drummer (better than most of the Ringos in music - both corporate music and indie music)
