Tyler And Perry Get ASCAP Honour
Aerosmith Toxic Twins Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are to receive the ASCAP Founders Award in April, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers have confirmed. They're to be honoured for their "exception contribution to music, inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators.", according to ClassicRockMagazine. The pair join big names including Neil Young, Tom Waits, Bacharach and David, Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchel, Carly Simon, Patti Smith and many others who have previously been given the award. Singer Tyler says: "To be recognised by ASCAP with the Founders Awards is a huge achievement. It's humbling for Joe and me to be honoured for our music alongside the likes of Stevie Wonder. Any society that lets Tom Waits in, I'm there." Guitarist Perry adds: "We join an incredible list of honourees and we're grateful to ASCAP for their support throughout our career." Society spokesman Paul Williams comments: "As part of one of our nation's greatest and most iconic rock bands, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry crafted the music that defined a generation and continues to inspire songwriters today. They are true musical pioneers whose contributions to American songwriting are immeasurable." And Tyler suggests that, after the release of 2012 album Music From Another Dimension, Aerosmith's songwriting days arent over. "It's been a life-long love affair and it's far from over," he says. The 30th annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards takes place on April 17 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles.
