Velvet Revolver Split With Weiland

Velvet Revolver Split With Weiland

Four founding members of the rock band Velvet Revolver said on Tuesday they were splitting with the group's troubled singer, Scott Weiland, citing his "increasingly erratic" behavior.

The announcement came in a terse statement from the group's management company as Weiland, 40, and his recently reunited original band, Stone Temple Pilots, were set next week to announce plans for a highly anticipated summer tour.

The Pilots, also known by their acronym, STP, already have confirmed a handful of upcoming dates, beginning with the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio, on May 17-18.

For Weiland, whose career has long been overshadowed by heroin addiction, Rock on the Range will mark his first show with STP since the band played 13 concerts to promote its last album of new material, 2001's "Shangri-La Dee Da."

Following the breakup of STP, Weiland was welcomed as lead singer for Velvet Revolver, the newly formed grunge rock band founded by three former members of Guns N' Roses -- guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum -- along with second guitarist Dave Kushner.

Velvet Revolver was confronted from the start with Weiland's drug and legal problems as it juggled performance schedules, recording sessions and promotional work to accommodate his court dates and rehab.

Last month, Weiland pleaded innocent to a charge of driving under the influence of drugs stemming from his arrest on a Los Angeles freeway ramp in November. He is free on $40,000 bail and is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on Friday.

A public feud between Weiland and Velvet Revolver's drummer already had cast doubt on the band's future when the statement on behalf of Sorum, Slash, McKagan and Kushner was issued under the headline "Velvet Revolver to Part Ways with Singer."

"This band is all about its fans and its music, and Scott Weiland isn't 100% committed to either," Slash was quoted as saying. "Among other things, his increasingly erratic on-stage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on."

There was no immediate comment from Weiland, Stone Temple Pilots or their representatives.

Thanks for the info to Yahoo! News.

This could be the best thing that has ever happened to the band. Can't wait to hear how they'll sound with a new singer, and how the old tracks will sound with a new voice.

At least with Axl, brilliant music was made. With Scott... a few diamonds but mostly not.

Cornell and Bach come into mind.....or maybe they might be the next band to do that CBS show, Rockstar, to look for a singer....someone who's trying to look for a break....most likely, less LSD (lead singer disease) doing it this way. The band would be more productive w/o the crap, and the contestants would have an idea of what VR is going for.

They should seriously just hire Axl Rose. I think Axl is finally starting to realize GNR's collapsing without the rest of the members. Look at how successful they were when they were together. They really only had 3 albums (Lies-half live-half new stuff, spaghetti incident-covers, live obviously doens't count) and they have just as many classics as any other band out there

Cornell's not gonna join any "real" bands anytime soon, trust me. And there's no reason why he should either: I saw him live last year and he was amazing > his voice from the Soundgarden days is back...

As for VR, I'm not sure who the next "victim" should be, but my money's on Mike Patton. I know he's close to the guys and was approached even before Weiland.

And I don't see Sebastian Bach joining them since he's probably gonna join GNR as a guest singer for their summer tour in support of Chinese Democracy which I'm SURE is gonna come out this summer

"The truth of the matter is that the band had not gotten along on multiple levels for some time.... I choose to look forward to the future and performing with a group of friends I have known my entire life, people who have always had my back. This also speaks to my commitment to my music and my fellow band mates in [Stone Temple Pilots] and to the fans who I feel would much rather watch a group of musicians who enjoy being together as opposed to a handful of discontents who at one time used to call themselves a gang."

Even if the replacement singer can't sing quite as well, it should still be an improvement anyway as at leats now they'l be able to just get on and actually play the damn songs rather than standing around waiting for Weiland to stop pricking about.

Weiland says he finds it funny that they'll continue without him after he stated that the band was dead. He calls them the so called "founding members" known as The Project before he came in and named the band.
He also suggested them to go with Sebastian Bach.

Seriously, whu does everyone think Cornell should join this band? Cornell is my favorite musician out there, but there is NO WAY IN HELL he is going to join VR. He is about to release his third solo album, produced by Timbaland, and he quit Audioslave just over a year ago. You think he wants to get tangled up in another supergroup? He has stated that he loves the freedom of being a solo artist, and he has been touring non-stop since he left Audioslave, all over the world. I seriously doubt he would give up that freedom. Plus he is putting out a record a year these days, he's not going to let VR hold him back.

IF he did join VR, I would gladly eat my words, but the band would definitely change its name.

Also, I'm pretty sure Mike Patton doesn't get along with the Guns guys, seeing as he trash talked them onstage when they toured together in 92.

Mikes schedule is way to hectic to be touring with VR. He already does Tomahawk, Fantomas and Peeping Tom as well as additional Movie and Video Game work, his voice wouldn't really fit in either.

Cornell has a great voice though there hasn't even been announcements for him to join VR and like you said he has to promote his solo albums.
