Wicked Week: Axl Rules The World

Who do you think can get an award for "the most discussing and contradictory frontman in the world of rock"? There is no surprise if the first name appeared in your mind was Axl Rose. It's obvious that more and more fans get irritated as times goes by. In the beginning of this week current Velet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan expressed his thoughts about Axl and GN'R's will-it-ever-be-released "Chinese Democracy". Asking why does it takes so many time to release the album, Duff said: "Axl Rose is a very, very fickle guy, and he changes his mind all the time. So who knows?" It seems that Rolling Stones do album releasing slightly better -- the immortal band has planned stadium tour to kick off in Boston on August 21. It will be conducted in support of the first new Rolling Stones studio album in 8 years.

Well, that's not all from McKagan -- he was really loquacious this week. In his latest interview he remembered his meeting with Kurt Cobain. He was one of the last persons to talk with the Nirvana frontman before that commited suicide. They flew together from LA to Seattle in April 1994: "We were at baggage claim, and I thought I'd ask him to come stay at my house. I turned around and he was gone," said Duff. "What if. Only if. A lot of my friends have died. If only he'd..."

The next report is much less positive. Guitarist for the American Head Charge, Bryan Ottoson, was found dead in his bus bunk on April 19th prior to the band's scheduled appearance at the Plex in North Charleston, SC. Lately it was confirmed that the police had found a pill bottle containing "numerous amounts of prescription medicine" in Ottoson's bed. In the evening of April 18th he consumed "a large amount of alcohol at a bar," police were called to the scene at around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ottoson was dead by that time.

Returning to more habitual and less doleful news -- Ozzy Osbourne has announced that he's fed-up with the US and once he finishes touring will move back to his homeland. "I'm going to go back to Britain. I can't see me spending the rest of my days in America," said rocker. Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst reportedly has asked Geffen Records to forgo its usual promotion efforts so that he can instead make the album's first single "The Truth" available in mp3 format for free. As you probably remember, last month Ozzfest website was listing a "mystery band" as a performer for one of the main stage slots, mentioning Megadeth, Anthrax, System Of A Down and Disturbed as possible candidates. The honor went to Mudvayne and the band's bassist Ryan Martinie said what he thought the whole hoopla was really about. "I think that was kind of, a little, uh, it was supposed to be incentive for people to buy, I think," he said. "So it was supposed to be an exciting thing for people to go, 'Oh, cool, Mudvayne's on the bill now, you know, there's another reason to go."

And more abnormal turmoil around Guns N' Roses towards the end. This week Atlanta radio station 96rock began advertising that the reclusive Axl Rose would be performing at a club in Cartersville, Ga., on April 23rd. And this is not all -- Axl Rose allegedly was said to be teaming up with former bandmate Izzy Stradlin. GN'R manager Merck Mercuriadis has dispelled rumours simply and elegantly -- "Axl will not be there." The radio station's program director Jeff McMurray initially stood by his promotion, but after further investigation, he backtracked. "Although we have contracts stating that they'll be there, evidently (the contracts) are not from Axl Rose," he said.

Does anyone remember My Bloody Valentine's [I[Loveless[/]? It took years to record, used up a whole lot of money, and in the end it was hailed by many as a masterpiece. True, it might be improper to compare Guns n' Roses and My Bloody Valentine, but it functions merely as a case in point. You might not hate the new album as much as you think?
