Wolfmother: Dave Atkins Quits

Wolfmother's Dave Atkins has left the band, after two years and one album. The band have already found a new drummer.

In a statement, Wolfmother say of the situation:

"Well, after two years of good service to Wolfmother, Dave Atkins has decided to leave the band to spend much-needed time at home with his family. Dave has had a great experience touring and recording with the band, though in time, it’s proven to be too exhausting and taxing on his home life. Dave gives his blessings to the band and may well still be around for future recordings. All is good between the band, everyone is cool, this is more of a life change decision for Dave.

"After Andrew Stockdale’s performances in L.A with Slash (earlier this month), the band decided to audition a few drummers whilst they were in town. And we’ve come across a young gun by the name of Will Rockwell-Scott of Mooney Suzuki and Har Mar Superstar fame. We’re very happy to have him on board and Will is keen as mustard to enter into the realm of Wolfmother.

"So at this point Will Rockwell-Scott will be with us for the rest of the Cosmic Egg touring cycle. So we look forward to seeing you all over the next three months in Europe, the US and Australia. There are some great festivals on the horizon and the band is really looking forward to seeing everyone out there."

I know it says it was mutual, but Andrew Stockdale is kind of arrogant and I think that plays a large part in him leaving. His first bandmates quit on him and now the new drummer? He has to be doing something wrong.

Wolfmother feels really impersonal these days. They used to be three guys that were having fun and making some good music. Now, it's just Andrew and a bunch of random people.

Andrew Stockdale is obviously the cause. He makes good music, in my opinion, but he might as well get rid of the Wolfmother name.

Even though Wolfmother is a lot better and a lot more consistent live nowadays, it's just not Wolfmother to me anymore without Myles and Chris Ross.

And what are you calling "real" music? Just because they have achieved mainstream success doesn't meant that they aren't talented. Andrew Stockdale is an amazing songwriter, imo.

Actually they were performing under a different name after the original lineup split up. Stockdale said he didn't want to continue under the name "Wolfmother" but all of the fans kept calling the new lineup Wolfmother, anyway.

He said that they decided to go back to the name when one of the original lineup members (don't remember if it was Chris or Myles) came up to him after a gig and referred to the new lineup as "Wolfmother".

I really think this band is more of a solo project. That guy from the Mooney Suzuki isn't bad, he'll work well with Wolfmother. I wouldn't consider him an Axl Rose kind of guy. It's a different thing all together. It might as well just be studio musicians, as far as the music goes it sounds stylisticly the same between albums. So it won't matter who's with Stockdale.

From what my buddy (worked for them) said, the 2 original members left the band because of Andrew Stockdale...and they were cool guys. So this doesn't surprise me.

Pretty sure they were playing to a backing tape as well. I have no idea what type of drummer he is i'm just saying, har mar superstar were abysmal.

no no its not him dude, the drummer who did the aussie support tour with har mar in 07 was fabrizio moretti (I think thats how you spell) from the strokes. Agreed on Har Mar Suerstar being terrible though.

Took me a while to understand that, but you may have a point there. But really, there´s people that have "wasted" more musician than Andrew Stockdale, so don't bash him for things you don't know.

Honestly, I don't get all the hate Andrew seems to be getting. I mean, sure, he might have had something to do with Chris and Myles leaving, but I doubt he has anything to do with Dave quitting, Andrew, from what I've read and seen in interviews, seems like a pretty friendly guy, doesn't seem like a prick at all.

That being said, shame that Atkins quit, was watching some videos of them live earlier today, he was pretty damn good.
