Roadrunner Boss Quits
Roadrunner president Jonas Nachsin has stepped down after 20 years at the label. Within hours of the announcement, sources told Billboard that at least nine other people had been laid off from the label, including publicist Amy Sciarretto. It follows the mass of Roadrunner cuts in April, when most international Roadrunner offices were closed and many staff let go. Nachsin was respected for his hard-rock experience, and oversaw the success of acts including Slipknot and Nickelback. The label will be under pressure to replace him with someone of a similar calbre. "I am so proud of what we have accomplished to showcase Roadrunner as not only a 'record company' but as a lifestyle and cultural beacon for fans around the globe", Nachsin wrote to staff in his final memo. "The chemistry of groundbreaking artists worked by a world-class group of truly committed employees has made Roadrunner a name with no equal over the years. That will continue." Today, Roadrunner's share of US album sales stands a 0.76%, down from a peak of 1.58% in 2009. With all these cuts, and now the loss of their long-term leader, will Roadrunner ever be the same?
