The Pirate Bay Founders Launch Bayfiles - A Rapidshare-Style Service

The music industry’s next villain? It might have just launched.

The founders of The Pirate Bay have launched a new site called Bayfiles, which is an online storage service along the lines of Rapidshare and Megaupload.

“BitTorrent is increasingly throttled or even filtered by ISPs, HTTP usually is not,” co-founder Fredrik Neij tells TorrentFreak.

However, he is stressing the lawful uses for the site. “Storage and transfers on Bayfiles also preserve users’ privacy. And another advantage is that users can be sure that content stays up, which is important for personal backups. It also guarantees that other personal files such as your MP3 collection are always accessible, so users are able to stream it live to any device.”

The site will accept and act on copyright takedown notices, and offers no search engine for users to find files hosted by other people on the site. Free users get up to 500MB of storage, while people paying five Euros a month get unlimited space.

Well, it's not really much of a threat if there will be no way to search.

Essentially, the only way this will be threatening is if people start passing links around, or if someone creates a database of links to hosted files.

So far, it's just a free way to access a limited amount of your data, elsewhere.

But that's obviously exactly what will happen. This sounds virtually identical to rapidshare, megaupload etc. and they all have all kindsa websites and forums that collect links

It wouldn't suprise me if thepiratebay themselfs make a seperate database for the links to files.
As far as I can tell judging by some of the comments the site has made before they are all for free stuff.

Whilst "trying before buying" is important i doubt even 80% of their users EVER buy the content at any point, and as far as I can tell, they support this...
