GN'R Frontman Says Slash Is A 'Cancer'

Longtime Axl Rose friend and associate Del James, whose short story, "Without You", inspired the epic clip for Guns N' Roses' "November Rain", recently sat down for a chat with Rose and is sharing the results of that one-on-one exclusively with Spinner.com. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Q: Did you break up the old Guns?

Axl Rose: It is my belief that the commitment to end old Guns came long before the band started in the heart and soul of one man. After that, it became more visible sometime before/during [the "Use Your Illusion" albums], when the others opted for personal reasons to change our approach, styles and methods of working together. At the time, I unwittingly chose as a means of what I felt was both my own and Guns' survival to adapt, and threw myself into whatever I could get out of that to support and promote our efforts.

The group shot of the band in front of the piece "Dead" was not a coincidence but not something I felt could be talked about openly, and something I hoped would change. I couldn't reach Izzy [Stradlin] and couldn't manage or curtail Slash and his personal objectives to take over Guns anymore than I did at the time, and I'm lucky to have survived, got what we did out of it and some still enjoyed the results. But for all intents and purposes, the "Appetite for Destruction" lineup and approach was already dead, and with the addition of Matt [Sorum], the end of the then-lineup and what Guns was really about was only a matter of time. Only heartfelt choices by the others could or would change that. Unfortunately, nothing did.

I'm generally blamed for the time it took to release "Illusions", but again the reality of my fault would be in not finding a way to manage Slash complete with his addictions and bring both him and Izzy together either similar to "Appetite" or in some other progression more conducive to GUNS than how "Illusions" was accomplished. Unfortunately, that never truly happened, and both GUNS and the public suffered for it. I'll take the responsibility in the sense that had I known how to achieve those goals we would have made what I feel would've been a more effective and powerful album at the time.

See? There's the catch, right? All this time, most thought I changed the direction with "Illusions". A lot of nonsense theories, speculation and complete nonrealities put together by others, based on Slash and others' crap and off one interview taken out of context I did with Kurt Loder where I said I hated "Appetite". That sentence has been used and twisted in every conceivable way since to vilify me and purports to prove my guilt and responsibility, when I wasn't speaking to the music itself but the overwhelming and at that time seemingly drowning success of our record.

My statement was in specific response to the feelings I had listening to DJs at the L.A. hard rock station KNAC at the time complaining about having to play the entire record for the umpteenth time for fans. I simply wanted to make another record and have it be as good or better. If you don't think I would've liked to have five "Appetites" and been living like the STONES at the time, you're high. With that, any other avenue I hoped to pursue musically would more than likely been available as well. This was something I could never get through to the others with. Personal need to dominate in GUNS was very important to them. Izzy has to be in charge or he's not comfortable, same with Slash. Duff [McKagan] tries convincing himself he's equal partners with Slash. Each to their own.

Would you consider a reunion with the "Appetite" or "Illusions" lineups?

No

Why not?

A lot more reasons than I'll get into here now. Different reasons for each version and each individual. The Izzy bit was fun and also fun because we didn't have to rely on him in any way, which is how he prefers things and works better for everyone. That said, you never knew if Izzy would be there or not or if he'd remember the song or decide to leave early. It didn't cause any problems, because we were doing our show regardless and didn't have to depend on anything, but it did open everyone's eyes a bit and blow minds.

He called, asked to come out and negotiated a deal with management that it's probably best that none of us knew about or the fun would've seemed a bit more like being used or taken advantage of spoiling the moment. As it was, we had a great time.

It'd be highly doubtful for us to have more than one of the alumni up with us at any given time. I suppose Duff could play guitar on something somewhere, but there's zero possibility of me having anything to do with Slash other than by ambush, and that wouldn't be pretty. He wrote that whole bit about not having his guitar in Vegas, I'd assume, to save face. I was told by both the Hard Rock and different GUNS industry people who had come out to be supportive of the new band and were a bit surprised to see him there, especially guitar in hand, but just assumed it was a surprise for the show and we were in on the arrangement.

Steven [Adler] brings assorted ambulance-chasing attorneys and the nightmare of his mother. One gig, or even a couple songs, could mean years of behind-the-scenes legal aftermath.

Wouldn't you make more money?

If the music was there, meaning new music, I can't say for sure right now and there have been market surveys, and various promoters have put together different projections and analysis that in areas where there could be more, it's not enough to sell your soul and live in hell the rest of your life for, that's definitely certain. But that's the catch, right, the music? If I believed in that as a reality which, no offense meant to anyone, I haven't seen anything in all these years to convince me or we'd be doing this interview under different circumstances of some sort, to say the least.

It's not some place I want to be or have any interest in being. If I believed in it in regard to the music, not in direction so much but in how it feels and to what degree, then maybe it'd be another story. I'm in no way trying to be offensive to anyone here, and I'm allowed to have my own feelings in regard to what inspires me, not someone else. Other than a one-off or something, I don't really do songs because someone else likes them.

There is the distinct possibility that having his intentions in regard to me so deeply ingrained and his personal though guarded distaste for much of "Appetite" other than his or Duff's playing, Slash either should not have been in GUNS to begin with or should have left after "Lies". In a nutshell, personally I consider him a cancer and better removed, avoided and the less anyone heard of him or his supporters, the better.

Read the entire interview from Spinner.com.

Hey guys, read the full interview. It's really good and Axl is not being an ass in anyway. He says little about Slash, but of course the little he said the media will blow out of proportion and screw both him and Slash over. This inteview is very mature and Axl handeled the questions very well.

Fucks sake, why not just make up, and then continue with their seperate lives? itd be so much easier, and Axl would probably get back into the positive light again with the public.

First of all, very weak. He is being interviewed by a friend. This way he can make sure the right questions will be asked, and it is misleading to call this an interview. If you guys don't look closely to a source, you're exactly the guys who misquote one another.

And second, let's not say 'Axl is right' or 'Slash is right'. You weren't there and neither was I. However, I have read Slash's autobiography, and the statements he makes there and the general facts of Axl's personality, make me personally agree with Slash. But I can not be certain if this is the case so please shut up. It isn't brave or intelligent, and its not honest at all. its fuc king biased. open your eyes

Axl, I guarantee that sooner or later, one interviewer is going to ask a question along the lines of "why are you such a tremendous prick?" and you will be scrambling for words.

Axl Rose is proof that there is no god, no one can truly be this much of a dick. its just not possible.

He's basically saying slash was a crackhead heroin addict and it was a major pain in the ass trying to work with him. I don't see any problem with that cause we all know it's true. I love slash's guitar playing but what can you say. I dont want to be in a band with a dude that's constantly got needles in his arm either.

Axl talks pretty articulatly, watch some of his interviews from the early days.

He is epicly arrogant but he speaks teh truth. All you people that swear by Slash's droppings that Axl is a douchbag, really need to look at the way things played out for the old guns.

I'm glad he said all these, it needed to be told. Well, moving on, VR was garbage and the New Gn'R is pretty awesome, case dismissed.

I don't get the point in their argument, but that's probably 'cus I found guns&roses to be tremendously boring... Still, even though I'm not well briefed on the situation, it seems obvious that the media is shit-stirring as always, whereas axl and slash are still having a go after how many centuries? Nothing's changed.

Oh... There was one thing that axl said about these old bands reforming (and sucking badly!) - I couldn't agree more strongly, all these old giants are gonna suck the lifeblood out of music and replace with nostalgic tired sounding drivel.

Fair play to Axl for coming out and speaking except in regard to Slash, it's just immature at this stage. He's moved on somewhat at least and taken the higher ground in this feud, Axl needs to grow up in that regard but besides that, thanks for the interview Mr. Rose.

The media is the only reason this "fued" is continuing.
Also, in Axl's defense of the end of old GNR and Slah, I have one question for everyone: Who was the one that was strung out on heroine 24/7 during this time??? Exactly, Slash. So when it comes down to who to trust for information on that period, Axl is actually the best.

He wasn't criticsing him at all. It's just the type of person Izzy is in that situation. He wasn't unreliable because he wasn't put in the situation to be unreliable. He just does what he wants to do, and thats what the arrangment let him do, so Axl had no problem with it.

i think they're all PMS-ing over this situation way too much, Slash, Axl, and Izzy. Appetite's worst repercussion was that it swelled all their heads with excessive hubris that got the better of them. I don't blame axl for the break up, not solely anyway. Why i do still have great respect for their music and everything they've done, they're all still whiny bitches in the end. Every single one of them. If they could ever find a way to get over themselves then they can see that they made great music together and in the end that's all the really matters. Axl is still pretty much a tool though, i'm just saying...

Whilst Axel is a ego maniac you can't take one side of the story and no other story. Slash would have a been a total pain to work with due to all his drug problems, you can understand how Axel feels if everyone believes Slash and nothing that he says. So basically Axel is a douche but Slash is also a douche.

hold on, let me get this straight. Axl is complaining about how all the other original members tried to be in complete control of the band?

however he managed through some clever legal action to basically make himself owner of the GnR name and legacy, and is currently in complete control of the new GnR.

and Izzy because he could never get his stuff in order enough to be able to be the always reliable bandmate he shouldve been

In the end GnR was a job and ultimately when you have an overbearing boss, someone who shows up to work on drugs, and someone who might not show up at all or leave before the work is done it is bound to fall apart

let's face it... axl is a childish ass. the sheer amount of thinly veiled insults in this EXCERPT show how immature he is in that he still hasn't gotten over the fact that 'his' band broke up and has never been half as successful since...

Let's face it. The break up was EVERYONE IN THE BAND's fault, not one or other specific party's... If Axl didn't like the fact that Matt Sorum was in the band, he should've spoken up about it. Likewise if he didn't like the fact that Slash was constantly high or smashed. Slash should have talked to Axl about the problems with the band. Shoulda woulda coulda, done with.

And as for the Slash = Gn'R or Axl = Gn'R... The band was a group of talented people who came together in a certain way that created a sound that defined a generation. It was EVERYONE in the band who made it, not just Slash, Axl, Izzy, Duff, Steven or Matt. Without ANY of them the chemistry would have been different and the sound would have been different. So None of them are '>' than the others.

Last but not least, i notice Axl took time to insult everyone else apart from slash, making it out to be anyone's fault but his own... Something to think about eh? Personally i'd like to hear Steven, Duff, Matt and especially Izzy's side of the story.

All in all, Gn'R was a massive case of bad communication and misunderstanding in my opinion.

That's nothing new: Axl blames Slash, the rest of the band blames Axl. Guess who's right.

GnR died the day everybody (except Axl) left the band, everybody knows that. It was clear they had to break up back then: Slash was clearly the star of the band, and Axl was the frontman who "should've had" the attention, so it's obvious that both strong personalities had to collide someday.

What is embarrassing to me is the attitude Axl has taken since then: he's proved to be one of the biggest pricks on the music world. Congrats for that, now you have an incredibly large amount of haters; many more than fans

He sounds like a little kid crying "I didn't do it!" 10 years after breaking a window. If Axl wasn't the one to break the band up, then at least one of the other band members would share Axl's view.

Sorry, I know lots of you guys have hope that maybe it's not Axl's fault. But it is.

It must be hard to be Axl, you know, living with the unshakable belief that everybody in the world is out to get you. Every single thing that goes wrong in Axl's life is ALWAYS someone else's fault or attempt to undermine him or exploit him. I thought he had at least patched things up with Izzy, but now he's bitterly remarking how Izzy was just "using" him.
Why did Chinese Democracy take so long? Because everybody took advantage of poor uncle Axl. Because some members were so unconsiderate they were not ready to wait around for decades for their work to be released. Because no one else was committed enough.
Why did GNR break up? Easy: all bandmembers were intent on taking over the band and destroying Axl. "I'm lucky to have survived": what a ****ing ego trip.
The only mistakes I've ever heard Axl regretting having made were always variations of the same "I shouldn't have trusted him/her" statement.

And where is that "Better" vid that he talked about months ago? Is the world-wide conspiracy of Axl haters behind that delay too?

I'm not really that big a fan of guns 'n roses, and don't know anything really about them, but having seen their DVDs from the old days, it seems that all of them had huge egos, and everyone wanted to be the center of attention. it's only natural for a band with people like that to break up, and the fact that there's still so much tension after all these years shows just how egocentrical and immature all of them are.

He tells us we've been lied to, and his words have been twisted and stuff.
If he thinks Slash is that bad, then why didn't he say something sooner?
Slash was a highlight of GnR, and Axl knows it. The fact that Slash has carried on rocking while Axls been locked in a studio is noones fault but their own. Slash has left the argument of why the band split up way behind.
Axl just wants to jump in a load of crap again.

Really, the band shouldn't be called "Guns n' Roses". It should be just called "Rose" since it's all about him. I mean sure I liked Chinese Democracy, but I really wouldn't call it a real Guns n' Roses album. It's more like some other band with too many members to make a hard rock album, with the overuse of keyboards and hi-tech sounding guitar solos. Even though Buckethead is a damn good guitarist, he's way too good for them.

I miss the old days when it was just a bunch of distorted chords and blues-like guitar solos. But I think we will never see that happen again.

He was rather full of himself, but perspectives are perspectives.

I think that's the first time I've ever heard anyone say the band was trying to take control and reduce Axl's position, interesting considering he made the most cash, wasted money on the Illusion tour, yada yada.

I like the new GNR personally, sounds like what Axl is comfortable with: a band that he essentially is in control of, which quite honestly I don't mind, cause the Chinese Democracy had a depth to it.

On a side note though, I don't believe at all one thing he said about Slash being some kind of control monster, seems rather absurd.

Every song he was b*tching at the sound crew and trying to save face with the crowd by blaming his sound crew fgor his lack of talent on the mic. Plus, as cool as I think Slash is, I always got the idea that he wasnt exactly mister laidback, and I'm not shocked that Axl thought he was part of the problem, cause while Axl is obviously the reason everyone left GnR, I dont doubt that Slash may have gotten on Axl's nerves at times as well, for justifiable reasons. I think the headline is a little vague, cause Axl has reasons behind what he said.

This is real mature of him. I trust what Slash says more than what Axl says purely based on the fact that of the two, Slash sounds like he's moved on and not angry about it. Over the last few years, whenever I heard him talk about the old Guns, he always described Axl as a great singer, but just having different views on things than he did. And when axl goes and justs says that all members of old guns suck with him being the only one capable of working... who are you gong to believe. This interview really hurts me, as I was watching a video interview of Duff at some NAMM thing where he said he really like Chinese Democracy and thinks Axl did a very good job vocally and generally praises the album, and then Axl goes and basically talks shit about Duff, despite the fact that he seems geniunly nice and complimented the guy.

Face it, I really like Axl's singing too, but how would you feel if you had said that Axl's Chinese Democracy is great and he's a great vocalist and then Axl goes and calls you a pushover douchebag? Thats what he just did to Slash and Duff.

And the worst part is that Izzy TOURS with Axl, is around Axl alot and Axl STILL talked crap about him. Face it, Axl is a douche.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head

Lol. I guess we all know now that Axl got really lucky. If Slash was never with GUNS they wouldn't of been half as good as they were. And we all know that after Slash left GUNS just started sinking lower and lower. It's true that for Axl, Slash was probably better removed for him b/c it made it easier for him to work and force his music on the others. But we all know for the best of music, it would of been better if Slash never left.

Axl's just still pissed off at all of them leaving him. He knows they were one of a kind players so that's why he's still pissed off till this day that they decided to leave, forcing him to do the only thing he could and continue GUNS alone.

That last question proved it more than before, Axl is in the music industry for money than about anything else. The rest of the interview just goes on to prove that he still thinks he's better than the rest of the band and none of the mistakes they made were truly his fault.

Shame Axl. But atleast your still not as bad as Brett Michaels. He may still be good, but he sold his soul to MTV and is probably the biggest ******* in music. You'd probably rate 3rd or 4th Axl, congratulations.

But I think we will never see that happen again.

well to be fair, tracci guns hasnt been in the band since like 1985, so they shouldnt have ever been called gnr.

on topic: this sounds waaay scripted. and after reading slash's book, im on his side. but i think if axl made a book or a complete statement rather than small interviews that achieve nothing but make him look like a douche, it would really help him make his case.

good interview. least he speaks the truth. fair do's izzy doesnt really like pressure and commitment but he played with them a couple years ago and it was good to see. duff playing guitar? why? hes a great bassist in that genre of music. adler would cause legal problems, well any guns fans know what went on there so sorum would be a good choice. slash is the cancer? harsh words. but in all fairness not one of us knows axl or slash so we cant really say much. but slash and axl are the most popular members. if slash left after lies would illusions of been as successful? who knows. but slash was as big a part of guns as axl. maybe that the problem. they were both too big. maybe the band consumed them. tbf no guns members including axl are **** all anymore. velvet revolver is good but everyone says when are guns getting back together. they play guns songs live. izzy doesnt really do much but he did play with guns. adler is in a guns tribute band. and axls new gnr mainly play old guns songs. that not tell you something. prob 99% of fans would trade new guns, velvet, adlers appetite and izzys random wandering around for guns anyday.

but i suppose its axl who needs to make first move and he aint gonna.

sorry for long rant but thought this was a good time to show my perspective on guns as i am a massive fan and my life revolves around them musically.

But seriously.. It's such a shame to see how bitter Axl sill is, the fact that he feels the need to have this carefully constructed interview shows how he's still all up in arms about stuff that happened so long ago. In my opinion, the 'New' GnR just isn't GnR to me [Possibly due to the fact Axl's the only original member?] and it could be possible that Axl has realised Chinese Democracy isn't the amazing CD he promised, and is looking for someone else to blame by digging up the past. Well that's what I think anyway...
Also to those who said the title is mislead.. It's exactly what he said and isn't taken out of context! It's the strongest point in the interview and certainly the thing i'll remember most about it

I will say that regardless of how truthful this interview is, and how intelligent, axl is still bashing his former bandmates, and all you're getting is his side. Yea, slash was on heroin, izzy was unreliable, but hey maybe izzy didnt wanna be around axl cuz he was a prick, and maybe slash couldn't put up with his GINORMOUS ego, so he was like "f this, i'm getting obliterated" everyone has their reasons, get over it and leave it alone it's annoying at this point. He has commented how good he sounds on the Chinese Democracy album to the press. He may feel someway different about Axl but atleast he has enough character to anounce publicly good things. Axl in this interview showed absolutly no character and has definetly scarred my perception of him. I love Axl singing wise but not as a person. This was a very sad interview. Yes we did get some answers but just how he answered them was disrespectful. Slash has tried to be nicer to Axl lately. Slash has tried to cool things down between them but it just seems Axl keeps adding gas to the fire.

i completely agree with you here

but i suppose its axl who needs to make first move and he aint gonna.

sorry for long rant but thought this was a good time to show my perspective on guns as i am a massive fan and my life revolves around them musically.

if anyone appreciates this rant, respects it or think im full of shit. please message. once ive posted i usually dont look back so wont see responses.

LONG LIVE APPETITE!

Well, I mean, taking the best moments of all the splinter groups of GNR and making into Guns N Roses isn't going to work. I wish GNR would get back together, personally. GNR was the second rock and roll band that I seriously liked, after AC/DC. That was when I was younger and I listen to a lot of different genres. GNR is still one of my favorite bands and for good reason. Appetite for Destruction is best looked at when equated with Illusion. I think that personally, Chinese Democracy is Axl's way of saying that he wants to get rid of the classic image of GNR. He can't do that. If Slash represented some classic image of GNR, then, it seems to work. He's not really doing something innovative by getting rid of Slash and putting Buckethead in. I mean, it's like making a trade for something that looks the same and sounds different. I mean, Slash is a much different guy.

But to disown every single member of GNR is a surefired way to get yourself hated. I mean, it shows that he lacks loyalty.

wrong, axl, duff, izzy, slash(to a lesser extent than most people think though), and steven were guns n roses and always will be. The new band is axls solo career, its not guns n roses, its roses. I don't think guns would have been as popular without slash, but thats mainly because he attracted so much attention. Why? Hell if I know, maybe its the top hat, but people loved him. He's also a great guitarist, but im sure they could have found someone just as good.

What do you mean "just another" Aerosmith/ACDC?You can't compare aero with ac/dc they all have there unique sound and vision. And axl will always be guns n roses?..you can't call one person a "band" it takes all the musicians to be called a band, sure you can replace your singer/guitarist/drummer...whatever but i doubt that they would have the same vision as the one they fill in for.

The fact that this drama has been going on for all this time is stupid. Fair enough if they hate each other, but I mean is there any need for these stupid "interviews"? Is there any need to keep the feud going publicly? No. No-one cares anymore.

Actually, the sad part is, judging by the comments here a lot of people still seem to care about this feud. Why, I'll never know.

Axl needs to focus on keeping his new GnR line-ups together for more than a couple of years, not on dissing his former bandmates.

Not really. A band doesn't suck just because a person is no longer in it. that's like saying Metallica went the way they did because Cliff Burton died, or saying Megadeth should have stayed broken up since they couldn't get back David Ellefson. A band sucks when they make crappy music in my opinion.

I didn't really like Chinese Democracy the album, but if they can do more of what they did in Chinese Democracy the song, then that would be the kind of stuff where I would buy another GNR album (I barrowed Chinese Democracy from a friend.)

Now with this stuff about more "Axl vs. Slash" in some peoples minds. Axl is just trying to say that him and Slash just can't work together anymore. I usually side with Slash in these types of arguements, but this time I'd have to say Axl wins, and I can see where he comes from on this. Quite frankly, he, like I, is tired of all the "GNR sucks without Slash" or "Axl is a dip for running his mouth" mostly from Slash fans. Now I'm not being a stereotype on this, but I just think that Axl's had enough of the bull and wants it to stop. Now I agree the short stuff he said about Slash in that interview will probably come back to bite him in one way or another, it always does, but I think he was just venting some sort of anger out. I could be wrong, but that's just my view of it.

I find it quite douchebaggary that axl said "Slash either should not have been in GUNS to begin with or should have left after 'Lies'"
What the hell is that?????

Slash rocks. GnR would sound better without slash than they would without axl even if he is one of the great rock vocalists of the era. i like the new gnr (not as much though) for the same reason as i liked the old, it was solid music that showcased excelent guitar work.

Ehh, same bullshit, different day. Of the classic Line-up, Steven's slowly getting off his addictions which have crippled him for 20 years. Izzy has his own thing which must work. Slash and Duff have nearly found a replacement for Scott at VR. As the guy who fought so hard to make the name his own, Axl's the one who's done the least with it and to further it.

Axl is the one who promoted them and called and begged MTV to put Welcome To the Jungle in the rotation. It was him and Izzy who wrote the songs. Slash is not a good songwriter, he is an ex junkie and was a total scumbag when he was younger.

And he acted like some mutant hybrid of a teenage girl spoiled brat, a wasted rock star, and, at times, admittedly a genius and a badass. Let's be realistic. What the f*ck was "Get in the Ring"? That is one of the worst things ever...and soooo immature. And how about the diva temper tantrums he constantly threw- not showing up to gigs, walking off stage, cancelling, etc. That is insanely disrespectful and lame. Buying a ticket to a gnr concert is like buying a raffle ticket. I think Axl Rose has a lot of talent, but he also has a lot of Ego that murders his appeal and his ability to function.

No, GNR are still a reasonably good band, but everyone needs to step back and think that just because it is called GNR doesn't make it GNR. It's the Axl Rose show with a few supporting players and he does it pretty well lets be honest.

This whole argument should have been dead and buried long ago, it's become so dragged out now that it's just making both Slash and Axl look like egotistical children.

The problem with the original line up is that they were a bunch of essentially street kids who made a ****ing amazing album hit the absolute highs of fame and fortune in a short space of time and all of a sudden had all this money and stuff that they didn't know what to do with and things just exploded from there.

I'm generally blamed for the time it took to release "Illusions", but again the reality of my fault would be in not finding a way to manage Slash complete with his addictions and bring both him and Izzy together either similar to "Appetite" or in some other progression more conducive to GUNS than how "Illusions" was accomplished.

...and who is Axl going to blame the time it took to release the very disapointing Chinese Democracy on?

This is wrong. Welsome to the Jungle made GNR famous, not Sweet Child O' Mine.

For everybody saying that Axl was never a necessary part of the band and they could have just used somebody else, or that Slash made Axl sound good, you guys are idiots. Guns N' Roses was a GROUP, it wasn't Slash, it wasn't Axl, it was a group. It wouldn't have been as good without Slash OR AXL.

Like him or not, Axl Rose is an amazing singer and one of the best in rock. If he hadn't been in GNR, he most likely would have been in another band, as a voice like that wouldn't go wasted. He's an ass, but that doesn't mean that he's bad. He's a great singer. That's not an opinion, it's a fact.

But, everybody seems to think that it's just Axl that doesn't want a reunion. None of them, aside from Steven, want a reunion. In interviews, Slash says he would be willing to talk it out with Axl in order to look like the good guy. Slash hates the idea of a reunion as much as Axl does. If Axl were to go to Slash and propose a reunion, Slash would laugh in his face. Axl is actually stating his feelings, and is being made to look like the bad guy, while Slash continues to entertain the media with his "nice" comments, which is actually a very smart move.

GNR broke up because of many things. One was Axl being controlling, but there were many others. They couldn't agree on which direction to take with the band. Axl wanted to do more Use Your Illusion type music(as exibited by the fact that most of the Chinese Democracy songs seem like they would have fit perfectly with that album) while Slash wanted to do more Appetite for Destruction material. Another huge reason was Slash's drug use. Slash was a junkie, to the point where he actually died. So, although Axl was/is an ass,he wasn't the sole reason of GNR breaking up.

Slash didn't make GNR. Slash, Axl, Steven, Izzy, and Duff made GNR. It wouldn't have been the same without any of them.

baileyb3 wrote on 03/09/2009 - 08:05 pm / quote |
All the members had there problems. But, almost every member from appetite and illusion found it difficult to work with Axl. He is an arrogant controlling mess.

I just think it's funny he is spreading around the blame on all of the other members. He was obviously a huge problem.

Slash had his addiction problems, but take him out of the equation and GNR is nothing.

Last but not least the new GNR sucks!

Screw all the arguing. I love VR, and the old GnR. Can't say I'm totally in love with Chinese Democracy, but at least Slash is the more grown up. They need to just shake hands, admit they had fun, apologize for all the crap that happened, forget about it, part ways, and let us all enjoy the tune-age.

I still refuse to call it guns N' Roses because it's not. It's Axl's ****ing solo band. He reckons Slash is a cancer and needs to be removed, well i've got a few things I'd like to remove from axl (like Arms or legs). Maybe if he removed his ****ing ego he would realise that he's ****ed up a lot and that he owes millions of people apologys. Also what the ****s with the dreadlocks? Who the **** does he think he is? Next thing you know we'll have Axl Rose doing no woman, no cry and I shot the sherriff ( No disrespect to the Marley Family and all of their fans). Still it'd probably be better than the rest of the shit he's made recently. I'm 100% agreeing with Mrs. Perla Hudson when she says that Axl's not even man enough to say all this shit to Slash's (Who is The Man) face. Glad to of got that out of the way.

Well I can't honestly say i hated the whole Chinese Democracy album, I liked a couple of tracks, like better. But a renunion would give Axl credibility. Slash and Axl were pretty good friends even when they just met i read from Slashes autobiography. Axl really needs to just get over this fued, they would be the biggest band still going even though Faith No More, Sound Garden & Alice in Chains have made renunions, I would still prefer to go see Slash, Duff, Izzy, Axl & Adler/Sorum rock the stage. Who does'nt like a bit of Apetite aye? even other than that they have so many classics they dont sound dated at all.
