Josh Homme On Kyuss Reunion Possibility |

Writer Joel McIver recently interviewed Queens Of The Stone Age/Eagles Of Death Metal's Josh Homme for Music Mart magazine's June issue. Excerpts from the chat follow:
On the frequent offers from concert promoters to reform his previous band, Kyuss:
The offers come in all the time. They're getting more and more expensive, and more and more elaborate. The money is crazy, but I've never been tempted – I don't really care about the money, I never have. That's not what Kyuss was about, so to punctuate the end of our sentence with that would be blasphemy. Kyuss fans are so fuckin' rad, they're fuckin' badass — but to me, reunions are just not necessary. It's not what it was, it's what it is, and Kyuss was a really magical thing — and if you weren't there, well, you weren't. That's just the luck of the draw. I don't feel the urge to do it for somebody who didn't have the opportunity to see us, or just didn't take the opportunity to see us. I'll let other bands alter their great legacies. Kyuss has such a great history that it would be a total error. I like that nobody saw Kyuss, and that it was largely misunderstood. That sounds like a legend forming to me. I'm too proud of it to rub my dick on it.
On the difficulty of touring away from his baby daughter and wife Brody Dalle (Spinnerette, ex-The Distillers):
It's the hardest thing I've ever done. I'm struggling by day three. There's no way round it. I was a child before, and now I'm a man, because I'm out here for my family. My first priority is making sure that everything is OK. You gotta bleed to prevent a cut somewhere else. But I've been doing that for years, so I'm trained for that. I'm trained to swallow the shit pill.
On the future of his ongoing musical side project, Desert Sessions:
The Desert Sessions are gonna go on forever. There's no reason to stop them. No, it wasn't me that said there would be only 12 volumes — I'm gonna do 112! It's just a mix tape — the longest-running mix tape in existence. It's awesome: doing them is just a matter of making the time frame come together. I was really wanting to do one before the new album ['Era Vulgaris'] came out, but we didn't put a time frame on it and it consumed what would have been that time. I didn't want it to take away from what we were doing.

: I would love the chance to see Kyuss live, but I totally understand what he's saying and I agree; I wouldn't want to see them if they're not really as into it as they were when they were together.POSTED: 05/09/2007 - 03:05 pm / quote |

: OK then, don't reform Kyuss to muddy up a legacy. Just form a new band with John Garcia. Best singer ever.POSTED: 05/10/2007 - 12:58 am / quote |

: even if Kyuss didn't properly reform, it would be cool if some old Kyuss members joined QOTSA on stage at some gigs and they blasted through some old Kyuss materialPOSTED: 05/10/2007 - 04:38 am / quote |

: UG... will you PLEASE stop naming news in ways which completely misleads the reader? I actually had a little hope going when I saw the headline... then to have a news article which is, essentially a non-news, as *nothing* is happening... it just isn't fair.
I agree with him though that to **** it up for a money reunion would be wrong. Even if i'd still pay to see it. A lot... gr..

: Kyuss DEFINITELY should never be reunited!
It was an amazing kickass band, which was starting ground for Josh Homme and Queens Of The Stone Age etc.
And I also do love the fact that Kyuss is so unknown...its brilliant.
You ever heard of Kyuss?
And people will reply:
Nope
Who?
Possibly..
And I love that.
Kyuss is history.
Done. Buried in the desert sand. Its in the past.
But we still got there music to keep the memories.
And anyway, John Garcia has formed other bands since..
Slo Burn
Unida
And now he is the singer in Hermano..POSTED: 11/29/2007 - 10:32 pm / quote |
