Yeah, it's really good. Hetfield and Ulrich asked some pretty amazing questions, and listening back to the old AIC with Layne, it made me realize how much Layne really did love drugs, and it makes me kind of sad in a way, especially knowing his conviction never faded, no matter what drug you gave him.

I also gained a new found respect for DuVall. Music is universal, and everyone takes away from the song the pieces that relate to them.

Congrats guys. I streamed the entire album and I love it, especially "Black Gives Way To Blue", a very fitting tribute.

Funny considering that metallica talked shit about them a couple of years ago..

However I haven't heard the new stuff, just one song.. But best album? Seems a bit exaggerated ...

I wish Jerry was just the singer 24/7 except have DuVall sing live obviously with him.

I say take them (Alice In Chains) on tour w/Metallica. I heard that the current band opening for Metallica isn't sounding good.

Ya I was just at the show in Montreal on Sept 20th LOG sounded like crap was just like noise and the band before that was even worse.

I took the title (Black Gives Way to Blue) as also an homage to Neil Young (Hey Hey My My with the subtitles of Into the Black & Out of the Blue). It also goes along w/the song's theme that Rock N Roll will never die, even though they changed singers.
Also seeing Cantrell as an Elton John fan is interesting.

Only heard the radio single so far and it sounds good. Yea, what happened to Layne was a tragedy but im glad that the guys have recovered and aren't looking back as much. I also think that DuValle (don't know first name, and is that even his last name?)is a very good new singer. Props to AiC for finding this guy. So often bands reappear with crappy replacement band members and its just not the same anymore (ahem..Van Halen, Metallica to name a few) , but not AiC!

I saw Metallica on august 1st.
Alice in Chains were one of the opening bands. I was never into them but they impressed me that night!

"music is always open to interpretation, and he takes away his own meaning from the lyrics, whether they were written by Staley or Cantrell."

that was a great anwser

This is excellent news! Can't believe the other stupid news aimed at a Metallica vs Megadeth feud is getting more attention.

Gotta check out the full interview. D/led the album, kicks ass, will be buying it as everyone should. Go AiC! you were much missed.

Maybe someone thinks LoG and Gojira are showing up Metallica in intensity or something so they're dicking with the sound.

Slap-happy :
I missed the opportunity to see AIC back in 1993 when they were due to open for Metallica at Milton Keyenes Bowl; "due to ill health"... In retrospect it seems obvious why they weren't there and I recall making a passing comment to one of the guys I went to the gig with.
As for people being surprised that Jerry is an Elton John fan - there was an interview in a now defunct UK rock/metal magazine (RAW) back around the time of the release of Jar Of Flies in which Jerry and Layne spoke of their influences. Although I don't reme, ber the entire articel verbatim they both mentioned bands and artists like Slayer, Metallica, David Bowie and even Guns N' Roses. Jerry also mentioned that the early 70s recordings by Elton John had an influence on him. What may be more surprising was Layne stating that he liked George Michael, only his solo stuff and something along the lines of "Wham? F**k that Sh1t!"

It's cool to see William getting more and more assimilated into real band member status. It's definitely nice to hear from him a bit in interviews now...certainly seems like a smart/worthwhile guy. He totally owned the stage live when i saw em, and I hope he gets to sing a bit more on the next record. Don't get me wrong, I think having Jerry do some more singing on this album was an intelligent and excellent way to let DuVall's voice get properly introduced into the AIC sound without overbearing the original elements and making it sound un-Alice in Chains-like. However, now that his voice is an established, I'd like to hear more of him the next time around. Last of My Kind lets his voice take lead and it's my favorite vocal performance on the whole CD (though perhaps tied with Jerry's emotional performance of the title track, and the harmonies on Private Hell that have a total Jar of Flies feel to them.)

Seem like an interview very much worth checking out...this has been a goooood year for AIC fans! =]

While I doubt it's intentional, I have heard that Lamb of God and Gojira are getting bad sound through the PA. The problem suddenly fixes itself when Metallica hit the stage, apparently.

Sucks for them. I love Gojira and Lamb of God are decent.

Checked.
