They're fake, unless they have the 9 songs which have been the official setlist according to Metallica, and, they actually are the song, but I doubt this album will be leaked.

i never liked this band much, but when you hang around with my mates long enough, its inevitable you will get into metallica. As of recently i have really been digging their old stuff, and am really looking foward to this 'epic' return, or 'sad' failure.

That is not saying much, but I would certainely hope so. Maybe Kirk is finally off his wah pedal addiction and Metallica will produce a good album. It's been a long time since And Justice for All...

I guess you haven't heard The Day That Never Comes? I'm pretty sure he steps on it in the second solo and doesn't let off without playing a messy string of hammer ons and pull offs, as always. Don't get me wrong, I love Metallica but he needs to lay off the damn thing already.

So they admit that they don't want to become a "nostalgia" act, yet they also say that they want to make a return to their earlier, heavier sound. Sound like a contradiction, anybody?

I'll admit that I'm excited for this album, but it seems like they're just trying to reiterate the formula of their old albums (a la "The Day That Never Comes", a clear ripoff of "Fade to Black"). James says that Metallica is not a "nostalgia act". Ironic part is, it's the nostalgic aspect that's going to be the only thing getting most Metallica fans to enjoy it.

Look, the important thing is that they're happy and that their making the music they want to. That's all they've ever done. Everybody says they sold out. one word: NEVER!!! if u see the load sessions, Ronnie was an improvised riff and they were having fun, that's not selling out, it's trying something different. I happen to like St. Anger, it's got sum really cool riffs, and it's an album of pure emotion. metallica dug themselves into a hole. before, they lost fans because they went in a new direction with their music. now, if the album sucks, they are going to lose fans because metallica promises an album that's just as good as their thrashy days. if they let us down with this album, they are going to get flamed hardcore. tdtnc was a step in the right direction, but if the rest of the album is like this, then i am not going to be impressed.

metallica still kicks SO much ass though.

Can't wait for Death Magnetic. Of course it won't be a Master Of Puppets part 2 or ...And Justice For All part 2, but it will be a GOOD album. When I put the DM cd in my cd-player I will listen to it open-minded like I do on every album I buy.

If that single is the best they can do, this album is going to wind up in the trash after a play. The guitar playing sounded thin and repetitive, the drumming sucked, Lar's sounded like a whiny bitch when singing, and and the lyrics blew. Metallica can play whatever they want... problem is, it always sounds like ass when they do as they find a way to screw it up.

There was a demo out a couple of months ago before the songs even had any names that you might be talking about. It is really thrashy and riffy but it was more like a jam session. The new cd will probably just have bits and pieces of it put into the songs.

First of all...I totally agree with the last part of what you said: it's so true, no matter what we're all buying the album anyway. So all of this is moot to some extent. As for the rest of it, I don't know. I definately know where you're coming from...although I don't think I agree. The cynical part of me does, but I'm also optomistic. I do think they've found a kind of hunger again, and I do think it's fresh. I also think they're getting along well again. There's no doubt that the anger seems to be gone but I do see a lot of energy there so that's a good thing. I think Metallica's biggest problem has been that for a long time they were sort of just going through the motions. Then I felt like St. Anger was the ungly but necesary purging of those demons. And ironically enough, I think death magnetic is a sort of rebirth and a return to Metallica's roots- to an extent. The anger and the youth isn't their, but the raw hunger and the energy and excitment is, and that's important because it's what separates Meallica from being a "nostalgia" act. Plus they're still sick live.

It builds up alot of hype for a really long time, we are only given little bits of pieces of it to see what it looks like, and hopefully it will be really good.

I'd like to know how many people trashing TDTNC actually listened until the very end of the song. I didn't like the first bit, to be honest, I thought it was too much like One or Fade to Black but later on in the song it got faster, more thrashy, but a different kind of thrash, like they're moving forward yet at the same time sticking to their roots, and mixing a bit of their AJFA days into it... I say good for them for doing what they want, and I have no doubt this album is going to be very good. It may not be comparable to their older stuff, but who knows, it might be so different that comparing it would be like comparing apples and oranges. And the tapping riff in the second half of TDTNC is amazing.

I'll agree the mixing was terrible, though.

They have to always say "This album is their best", otherwise thay'd be admitting it's not as good as the others, then again as long as they stay away from the whole St. Anger sound, it couldn't get any worse. Notice how he did say the best in the last 15 years, that basically puts the album "Load", and everything after that in that "15 years". Funny thing is everything from "Load" on sucked, which in retrospect means he thinks, this album will at the very least be better then Load, Reload, and St. Anger. The Black album came out in 91' so that puts it outside the 15 years. This album will suck.

dudes the new single sounds killer! Its got the elements of all of Metallica's career. A little bit of The Load era at the beginning of the song then souding alot like Justice and Lightning! How could you people still complain it isnt good enough! What do you guys expect the boys are not as you as they used to be! Lighten up and aapreciate the fact that they are still willing to bless us with there music and still are touring!

It builds up alot of hype for a really long time, we are only given little bits of pieces of it to see what it looks like, and hopefully it will be really good.

Some of us who are fans can accept music other than MoP-era Metallica. We just hold Metallica (and in my case, any band I listen to) to high standards. MoP was an amazing album. If they put out an amazing album that didn't sound like MoP I'd be ok with that, because they're never going to make another MoP. But you'd think they could make another great record post-Black Album (which was at least very good)... but what I've heard of DM so far fails to impress in any way.

Yes! People are way too fast to judge. Metallica has changed so much since the 80s, I can't believe how some people still think they are going to release something like they did back then. That is by no means saying they can't create good music anymore, just listen to the new single. It's got some really cool guitar parts in there, it's musically a very good song. And with the energy they've shown onstage recently I have to agree, this album will most likely not suck.

ps. gotta love what Kirk said, as always. Brilliant, yet kind of funny.

Is still a good album i liked Day that never comes solos they kicked ass but if people are specting a Master of Puppet they will be disappointed they can't go back to the 80's this is '08 now they have to evolve and move on just like the rest of the bands.

Lars doesn't sing dumb ass...
Anyway.
I have only heard Cyanide from the radio.
The first time I heard it, I smiled.
I think they might be comin' back.
I really hope so.
I have not heard "The Day That Never Comes", but it sounds good from what I hear.
And for people that think that Lars is a shitty drummer...you needa listen to the tracks more carefully.
I can see how you'd say that in St. Anger...but in all the other albums...I think he's great.
I'm a fan off ALL the albums.
Every album has something good.
James has amazing talent.
And so does Lars and Kirk and Rob.
Kirk will NEVER stop using the wah, and if that's what he decides...SO BE IT.
I really wish Jason wouldn't have left the band.
I really liked his energy and effort to the band.
I also wish Cliff hadn't died...may he rest in peace.
This album sounds like a change to their old stuff though, which I do prefer.
Either way...I don't really think I'll be disappointed.
