American Idol star and occasional Queen frontman Adam Lambert has covered Bob Marley's reggae classic "Is This Love" during a live show in Australia. Watch the video below.
The star has previously pulled of covering Queen classics but struggles to impress with his reggae attempt. Lambert clearly has a great voice and is a good showman, but he shouldn't do reggae; he can't pull it off.
Essentially, his voice has turned the glorious Marley classic into a show-tune, and surely we can be in agreement that Marley's glorious Reggae classic wasn't written for Broadway?
Lambert recently got a fairly questionable tattoo across his forearm.
Even though the writer of the article was kind of a dick, he's right. This arrangement has more of a polka feel than reggae. More than anything that's what made it suck.
I don't know why a review of this song is here either. However, I went and listened to Bob Marley and Adam Lambert's version and they're both good. Obviously, Adam's version doesn't have full sound of the reggae instruments. I don't hear anything that makes Lambert's version a "show tune". Just because he did musicals people that are critical of him make a crack about show tunes.
I see nothing wrong with the cover. It's good actually. He doesn't have a full reggae band backing him. The guy is a talented singer. Saw him with Queen and he earned my respect. The cheap shot about musical theater was really beneath you.
Love this rendition of Is This Love. My God, the guy was having fun with his audience. Why does everything have to be reviewed and critiqued? Can we not enjoy music for the sake of just enjoying it--- and obviously his audience enjoyed it. Lighten up, please.
Everything Adam covers is dissected piece by piece. Did you hear what he said? He said he loves the song as it makes him feel good & he just decided to share it with the audience. Whatever happens to pure enjoyment of good music? Does it have to be was it a good cover? If anyone knows Adam, he sings whatever & whenever he feels like it! No justification is required!
Obviously this "writer" posted this for attention. He has bad grammar and spelling! Geesh! So glad Adam doesn't give a **** about stuff like this. Total rubbish. Adam was just having fun with the song, nothing more. Oh, other than his FANTASTIC voice and performance! And he looks GREAT! He is having fun and the audience is having fun, so LET IT BE. A show tune? Do you have tin ears?
Apparently Adam decided to do this cover on the flight down from Japan to Australia on this promo trip. It was off the cuff and quite nice...AND his own version. I don't understand your comment in all honesty. Show tune? Broadway?? I also suspect if he did it a little more "reggae" you would complain that he was trying to copy Mr. Marley. He has said that when he was growing up, his family listened to reggae and Bob Marley..so he is quite familiar with the genre. One doesn't need to sing a song the same way as the original artist, and in fact that's what "artist" suggests: the ability to do something a little different with it, not copy. Your mention of Mr. Lambert's Queen performance should remind you that in the case of Adam singing with Queen, he didn't try to imitate Freddie Mercury..He gave his own spin on those classic Queen songs, to help keep them alive and to honor Freddie's memory. I think he did the same thing here: his own artistic touch on Mr. Marley's song. "Questionable tattoo"??? His new tattoo has meaning to him...and is another personal expression of his inner artist. It's "questionable" only to you...
