The first in a series of video clips featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the recording sessions for the new Alice In Chains album can be viewed here.
Jerry Cantrell (vocals, lead guitar), Mike Inez (bass), Sean Kinney (drums) and William DuVall (vocals, guitar) are hunkered down in a Los Angeles studio crafting their latest opus. Produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush, Stone Sour, Trivium, Shadows Fall, Death Angel), the album promises to be a sonic journey guided by eerily psychedelic solos, and unforgettable riffs.
Alice In Chains' manager, David Benveniste (Beno) of Velvet Hammer Music and Management Group, previously stated, " Our collective vision is to extend Alice In Chains into phase two of their career worldwide. They have tremendous heritage, having sold some 15 million records, and an amazing repertoire of new material that they've written. Most importantly, Alice In Chains will be on the road in 2009 bringing new music to fans everywhere."
The new disc will mark the recording debut with Alice In Chains of frontman William DuVall, who has been singing with the group since they officially reunited in 2006. Original vocalist Layne Staley died in April 2002.
Alice In Chains will kick off 2009 with a main-stage slot on Australia's Soundwave Festival (February 21 - March 1) alongside such acts as Nine Inch Nails, Lamb Of God, Alkaline Trio, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and more.
Alice In Chains have mostly stayed off the road since last year, but played at a radio station festival in Peoria, Arizona on September 20.
Thanks for the report to Blabbermouth.net.

: Can't wait - AIC kicked butt both times I saw them (since Mr. DuVall began touring with them).
Good for them, and IMO, good for rock.POSTED: 11/03/2008 - 11:52 am / quote |

I saw them Halloween 2006 and there was no accounting for how damn good of a show they put on.
If he can pull it off live, I have no doubts this guy's going to wow us all from the studio.POSTED: 11/03/2008 - 01:27 pm / quote |

: This is one of those rare occasions when a replacement singer is actually pretty cool. Filling in for Staley is a tremendous feat, but I've got a feeling this new guy DuVall can pull it off. Looking forward to the new album. POSTED: 11/03/2008 - 03:45 pm / quote |

Why? I think its perfectly fine that they still call themselves that, sure staley was a great singer, but seeing the other three original members are still there I think that they should be able to keep using that name. I do however hate it when bands reform with only one original member.POSTED: 11/03/2008 - 04:44 pm / quote |

Why are there people like you? If a band is gonna change its name for any reason, its because their primary song writer has changed. Rage lost de la Rocha and picked up Cornell. de la Rocha is the larger half of Rage's creativity, ergo; Audioslave. Im gonna flamed for even mentioning GNR but I will. GNR's writing came from Axl and Slash. Even though Axl is the only one left, he keeps the name because he was the primary music writer(and 'cause he wouldnt get anywhere with 'The Axl Rose Band'). Or look at RHCP. I dont see anyone b***hin cause they didnt change their name after Hillel died and Jack left.
Heres the point: Layne was an emaculate vocalist. But Jerry always did more song writing. Of the band's singles that werent co-wrote, Layne wrote 2 to Jerry's 12. And on the songs that they did write together, Layne only wrote the lyrics. So if you want to be a jerk about it, Jerry was the head of the band, not Layne.
The reason DuVall will work is because the band's not continuing like Layne is there and expecting William to sing his parts. POSTED: 11/03/2008 - 05:09 pm / quote |

Well said mate, i can't wait for this tour, i was so gutted i missed AIC's set at download becuase of a-levels .
Sorry to be a dick, but i thought Izzy and Axl were the main song writers in G N'R, izzy apparently wrote most of appetite. I could be wrong though.POSTED: 11/03/2008 - 06:08 pm / quote |

: They've got to stop this carrying on! This is the most anticipated album of 2009! What, do we need another Chinese Democracy? The music scene is going to change, by Summer 2009. And yeah, I mean, it's not technically an Alice in Chains album. I mean, Layne Staley was the lead singer of Alice in Chains and that's set in stone.
Alice in Chains rule. They remind me of GNR, in the sense that Layne Staley is like Axl Rose. I mean, Layne Staley reminded me of a grunge version of Axl, when I first saw the video for "Man in the Box."POSTED: 11/03/2008 - 06:19 pm / quote |

: Yes Jerry Cantrell wrote most of the songs, and was the driving force behind alot of AIC's music, especially when Layne was getting deeper into drug problems, but i still think they should change the name of the band to something else. Just because Layne didnt write a lot of the songs, he still sang on them, and you cant deny that they would sound a lot different if someone else had sang them. One of the best parts about AIC is the interaction between Jerry's and Layne's voices, and to take away that part completely changes the sound of the band. They should just do like what Queen did and change the name to Alice In Chains with Duvall or something like that. POSTED: 11/03/2008 - 10:47 pm / quote |
