Chevelle: New Single Available For Streaming

"Jars", the new single from Chevelle, is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The song comes off the group's fifth studio album, titled "Sci-Fi Crimes", which is scheduled for release on September 8.

Although there's been rumors that this is the heaviest Chevelle album yet, drummer Sam Loeffler told The Pulse of Radio he has a different view. "I think that production-wise it's different in that we used a lot more vintage amplifiers and things like that," he said. "I don't know that it's really a heavier record than any of our others. I actually think it's probably the opposite. But it's certainly still driving, melodic, hard rock music."

In addition to "Jars", Chevelle has played "Letter From A Thief" and "Sleep Apnea" on some recent dates.

The new disc will follow up 2007's "Vena Sera".

The band kicked off the "Stimulate This!" tour with Staind, Shinedown, and Halestorm on July 1 in Peoria.

Thanks for the report to Blabbermouth.net.

The beginning was very Chevelle-typical, but the rest proved that the album might be actually interesting.

Just listened to it. It doesn't sound far removed from their last album, but there's always hope. In my opinion, Point #1 was great, Wonder What's Next had a more mainstream production and style but was still a good album, the next two were decent but didn't show any progress from the second album.

I really like this new song.

It's okay. Their older stuff was killer, very 90's influenced, but with their later stuff it sounds a little too modern for my taste. as in i've heard songs just like 'jars' 100 times before on the radio.

Totally agree with BassFishin. It's okay, but it's like I've already heard the song a lot on the radio. It doesn't seem to have Chevelle's edge that truly made them unique, which is sad. Mind you, this is only after two listens, so I don't know if I have the grounds for a reasonable opinion yet. Still, my first glance makes me wonder if Chevelle is selling themselves out. I loved their original sound, but this song sounds like every other stereotypical rock band out there nowadays, which isn't a good thing.

i don't mean this in a bad way so don't jump all over me, but has anyone else noticed that Chevelle's lyrics almost never rhyme?

Sam, chevelle's drummer, said something about that in an interview, I believe. He said that Pete chooses not to use rhyme schemes in his lyrics. I'm not sure of the reason though.

On the song, I think it's solid. It took me a couple listens to like it. Not the best song they've ever written, but I'm definitely buying the new album when it comes out.

ah, thanks for clearing that up. i didn't know it was intentional, i just thought he sucked at rhyming lol

It's not bad, but it isn't that great. I agree with Mr. Brawl. Pete's lyrics still sound good, though.

he doesnt rhyme because he feels it limits you and holds you back in song writing

i am probably going to be made a fool for asking this and not that it really matters but are these guys still a christian band? other than that ignorant question it's cool that they are still at it.

UG is a lil late on this, as soon as the single came out on the radio it was on their myspace.

hm... i can't tell if i liked the song like any other chevelle song i know. don't even know what the hell that means haha.. guess i'll just wait till the album comes out if i can get myself a copy

for fans: this type of thinking (could do us in) = most underrated hard rock album on god's green earth. may 'the clincher' live forever and always.

clincher09 wrote on 07/04/2009 - 01:43 am / quote |
The new songs is promising, it sounds better than most of Vena Sera, here's hoping they can top This Type Of Thinking, which will be hard to do.

Nah, they were actually never a Christian band, their first label had mostly artists that were and sold to Christian book stores, so they got caught up in the mix.

That's exactly why I couldn't get into them. Every song sounds the same, and sounds like I've heard it many times before.

Oh, and am I the only one that gets a Jar of Flies vibe from the cover?

jhalterman wrote on 07/04/2009 - 02:55 pm / quote |
here's a question: what songs/albums did you guys think that chevelle was going too mainstream (going with the flow so to speak)? i mean, i never really thought about this because i've loved them too much. just curious.

Rhyming is an elementary trick used to resolve a phrase. A good songwriter will resolve a phrase with melody. In absence of melody, rhyming becomes more important. That's why rappers and poets rely so heavily on it, no melody. This song was ok, I guess. I bet the only reason they got to make another album is because they signed a multi-album deal when they were big.

NorCalLos wrote on 07/06/2009 - 04:17 am / quote |
BTW, the dude is right on about rhyming limiting the creative process. How often have you heard a song for the first time and knew what the next line was going to be based on the previous line?
