Ask any hardcore Tool fan, and they’ll tell you that visual documentations of the band in any form are pretty few and far between. The group has never released a DVD of any of their shows and but for some snippets from their 1993 tour in support of the "Undertow" album, no pro-shot footage of the band has ever surfaced. Fans hoping for a glimpse of the band, however, may be in part satisfied by the fact that fan filmed video of their entire January 14th performance in Reno has now been posted online.
As Banana 101.5 notes, although the show contained no new Tool material, it did feature some surprise inclusions from the band’s back catalogue, including an opening rendition of "Hooker With A Penis" from 1996’s "Ӕnima" record. The full set list is as follows:
01. Hooker With A Penis
02. Jambi
03. Stinkfist
04. Ticks & Leeches
05. Pushit
06. Schism
07. Intension
08. Forty-Six & 2
09. Lateralus
10. The Pot
11. Ænima
Tool are currently working on the follow up to 2006’s "10,000 Days" album, although as front man Maynard James Keenan has noted, the band is not keen to commit on a release date at this stage:
"Even if [the band] told me how close they are to being done, I couldn't tell you because if I say 60 percent people will start counting down... They write forever and then we go in and knock it all out."
Three dates remain of Tool’s current North American tour, and they are as follows:
01/29 - Camden, NJ - Susquehanna Bank Center
01/31 - Uncasville, CT - Mohegan Sun Arena
02/08 - Duluth, GA - Gwinnett Arena
The video of the band’s performance in Reno from January 14th can be viewed below.
I was at the Toledo show. The band was tighter than I have seen in years. Plus the Intronaut Drummer sat in on Lateralus. The band started up to the drum solo then he came out and him and Danny did like a 10-15 min solo, then they restarted the song with dual drums. Sick sick sick
I'm guessing this isn't how the band wants people to see their live shows. Not releasing dvd's is clearly an intentional move, now anybody with a handy cam can post their shaky videos. UG doesn't need to promote un sanctioned videos
i saw some dude with a cowboy hat and douche bag glasses and the next two words i read were" complete tool", then i stopped there because i completely agreed.
they actually played ticks and leeches? ive only heard of them playing that ONCE
You are mistaken. Although Ticks and Leeches isn't played often, it has been played live more than once. In fact, I've seen them play it twice. Both times Maynard was using the same heavy distortion vocal effect that was used in the recording of Rosetta Stoned. I saw them play it both times while touring behind 10,000 Days.
I saw Tool in 2002 on the tour for Lateralus. This pretty much seems to be characteristic of their live shows, as the focus is mostly on the videos and other theatrics accompanying the music, and not on the band members themselves. The band just kind of stand there playing their instruments, with Justin Chancellor being the only one who even remotely seems to get into performing (and that's mostly just headbanging). Their live shows are amazing in person, but I kind of doubt it would translate as well on DVD.
