According to Blabbermouth.net, reactivated influential alt-metal act Faith No More played what may or may not be a brand new song during the band's concert last Tuesday (November 8) in Malvinas, Argentina. Low quality fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.
Faith No More will perform all of its classic fifth studio album, "King For A Day... Fool For A Lifetime" at the Maquinaria Festival in Santiago, Chile on November 12. They will be joined at the concert by Trey Spruance, the guitarist who played on the original LP, which was released in 1995.
"King For A Day... Fool For A Lifetime" was Faith No More's first album recorded without longtime guitarist Jim Martin. It was the band's only CD to feature Spruance, who was also a member of Mr. Bungle alongside FNM singer Mike Patton. However, Spruance was credited only as a guest musician, and was replaced on the supporting tour by former roadie Dean Menta.
Faith No More's final studio CD, "Album Of The Year", was released in 1997 and featured yet another new guitarist, Jon Hudson, who was a former roommate of bassist Billy Gould.
Mike Patton recently told RollingStone.com that he and his bandmates "have [no] plans for a new recording or anything like that," adding that "we're just taking it slow as it comes."
"Reunions can be done very distastefully I think, and we were all very worried about that," he continued. "But I think we were all very surprised with how good it felt. It's a tired old script: band splits up, gets hard up for cash, goes on tour and records a shitty record. We don't want to be part of that kind of history."
Faith No More played the final show of its initial reunion tour last December at Estadio Bicentenario de La Florida in Santiago.
In an October 2010 interview with Consequence Of Sound, bassist Billy Gould spoke about the possibility of the reunited act playing more shows after the Santiago concert. "I personally can't see us not doing any more shows again, I just don't see it," he said. "There's no point in not to do it. Why quit now? I think it's just this tour… We did this tour and that's what we decided to do. And we did it. We accomplished this goal, it worked out for all of us, and then we look at each other and say, 'Hey what do you want to do now?' And I think that's how it's got to be."
Regarding how the reunion tour had gone up until that point, Gould said, "I was probably the guy who dragged his feet the most in doing this, and I've got to say it exceeded my expectations 100 percent. It was much better than my best-case scenario, and my worst case didn't even come into play."
Faith No More made a comeback in June 2009 with a headlining performance at the Brixton Academy in London, England and played sporadic shows for the next 18 months.
These guys really should put out another album.. their talent is way too good to be put to rest. I didn't really like King for a day or the one they did with Chuck, but all of their other albums are some of my favorite ones.
Sounds just as original as any FNM songs! These guys still got it. Would love a new album!
Also, good to see em playing with Spruance. That guys a machine. Would've loved if they did another album with him but then again, it'd probably become "Bungle No More".
On topic of Trey Spruance, check out his own project "Secret Chiefs 3". They got a unique and awesome middle-eastern type sound and worth a check for anyone IMO.
Loved that song!! FNM are sooo underrated, personally i love pretty much everything by them (early stuff too)and Mike Patton. I know there won't be too many nodding heads but i just do :P
Pleeease make an album. PLEASE.
I would love to have a new album come about. That being said, I would love even more to be able to go to one of their concerts. Mike Patton is amazing, Fantomas, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, Faith, all great, imo.
Most versatile band ever. Could melt 40k faces one night and play an African-American wedding the next. In the running for best band ever. Love all their guitar work. Spruance is a beast but I really like Jon Hudson... consummate pro.
