Foo Fighters have revealed a brand new video for "These Days".
It uses home footage and stunning live clips from the band's stadium shows in Australia and New Zealand. iTunes offered the official video for download yesterday for one day only, but anyone who missed it can watch the YouTube clip below.
The band have been nominated for six Grammy awards, including Album Of The Year and Best Rock Album for "Wasting Light". They will perform at the 54th annual ceremony which takes place in LA on February 12.
Meanwhile, Dave Grohl continues work on a mysterious side project. After subtle hints from members of Ratt and then Corey Taylor that they had been working with Grohl and producer Butch Vig, details have finally been revealed about the unusual project.
"[Dave is] doing a documentary about the legendary board from Sound City [recording studio] that everybody and their mom recorded on - everybody from 'Nevermind' to, actually, [Slipknot's] 'Iowa'," explained Corey Taylor.
Sound City, a prominent rock recording studio, closed in May last year after setting the tone for albums including Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors" and Nirvana's "Nevermind". Taylor continued to say that Grohl has been inviting musicians who had recorded at Sound City studios to make music on the same mixing desk.
Grohl decided to buy the mixing desk, a Neve 8028 custom built by Rupert Neve and the longest of its kind in the world. Speaking to Rolling Stone (via Blabbermouth), he explained why he wanted to make a documentary about the legendary studio.
"When Sound City closed last year, it was a very sad day. That place was like a church. The list of people that recorded there reads like a virtual Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
"That funky old place had the best drum room in world. The drum sound at the beginning of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' — that's Sound City.
"I decided to make a film about that feeling you get when you put five guys in a room, hit 'record' and the hair on the back of your neck stands up. Expect some epic jam sessions."
I feel like the people who call Foo Fighters sell outs or say that all their songs sound the same are people who never took the time to really dig in and listen to their stuff thats not on the radio. I used to be a hater but they have so much good music, just look beyond the radio. Just my opinion.
bridge burning is my favorite off the album, but i do love most of the album. i dont know how people say "rock is dead", look at the foo they make kickass music and they are awesome live. also i like the video for "these days"
The best thing I saw on this page: the 'More Foo Fighters news' section below the video. Each of those other articles is about great stuff, which just goes to show how awesome these dudes really are.
Much respect, and as always, Grohl for President 2012.
if youre chirping the foo fighters for being overated youre either ignorant, or someone who thinks chirping popular stuff is cool (ignorant). Anyone with the ability to appreciate music, even if you arent a fan of the foo fighters, would still be able to appreciate the immense talent that they have to offer.
dear everyone getting pissed off at the guy calling foo fighters overrated,
he's trying to piss you off. letting him know he got to you means he wins. never argue with a fool. obviously foo is great, dave grohl has god-like genius (he has the award to prove it), just let it go.
He's just a guy. He's good at what he does, but he's not great at it... except for the drums -- he is great at that.
But you people act like everything he does is perfect. There's a difference between everything being good and everything not being shitty. I go with the second viewpoint.
Practically none of their stuff is horrible, and they have quite a few good songs, but the greater majority of their material is just 'not bad'.
Favorites: White Limo and Bridge Burning.
I think the foos sometimes do sell out some of their songs. like walk, or that terrible song from the greatest hits, but if you look into it they have some great songs ( especially the last 2 albums and the first 2 )
But im glad they don't change too much. Incubus changed and it became a wreck, so did the Chili Peppers :/
Just adding to this. Most bands out there today ( from this generation ) can't put out an exciting concert like the foos without overdoing their stage lighting and stuff ( U2, Coldplay dare I say its a band, Muse..)
As much I love the entire Wasting Light album I still think the Foo's should do a video for Arlandria.
Gosh that's still my favorite song from the album.
This was released as the 3rd single from Wasting Light in the UK. I remember seeing it a bunch of times on TV. But it was only a video of a live performance. Would be nice to see another video made for this!
honestly dave grohl and the foo fighters are the most overrated alt rockers out there, every single album of theirs sounds exactly the same
I loved the time when Dave Grohl was a part of Queens of the stone age! I loved the sound of Them crooked vultures! And NEVER forget his past in Nirvana.
Foo fighters is a great band! One of the best of todays rock bands. IT IS NOT OVERRATED!
So this crushes all the rumours of a new probate album, I don't think tcv recorded in that studio, or qotsa, meaning that the image of Grohl Josh and Alain Johannes on the FF twitter means either a new Vultures album or Dave having some kind of involvement in the new Queens album. Awesome.
The Foo Fighters really are the most overrated band of today. I like some of their early albums and they are good live but there are a lot of other bands who should be getting attention like this. And I agree with the guy that said their albums all sound the same because they do you can't even deny that. Their just generic radio rock now.
Great how once anyone achieves any kind of success and longevit in their career that people start slamming them for being generic and say they sound the same....
So; Rope = Everlong = Razor = Times Like These = Weenie Beanie?
i'm a big fan of Dave, but this song....no,no,no sounds like something nickleback wrote
If this sounds like something Nickelback wrote, then practically everything the Foo Fighters have done sounds like Nickelback.
This sounds like a typical Foo Fighters song. It's really career-spanning in terms of all of the aspects it touches on. This song could easily fit on any Foo Fighters album, aside from the first.
The song itself wouldn't even sound out of place on the first one -- it contains aspects from that album, too -- but the production of it would make it sound out of place on that one.
..plus, it kind of sounds something like a mash-up of Foo Fighters singles.
I was at the New Zealand show where it was recorded, it was pissing down with rain, yet there was a huge turnout it actually caused a minor tremor on the earthquake scale, for those who say foo fighters sound the same and overrated you are crazy...foo fighters are a band keeping rock on the charts they are true musicians playing real music in a era where mixing sound, vocals or lyrics about nothing seem to dominant the charts today, so I praise them for keeping it real....The official video is awesome it's live and direct over a number of shows, the lyrics in this song is my favorite of all foo fighter songs, can't wait for next album....
Can't wait to hear the Sound City tracks. Interested to hear what comes outta that. For the haters, just bow down to Dave Grohl. Can't beat him, might as well join him.
I went to the Adelaide show when these guys toured Down Under, and even if you don't like their music they sure sure know how to rock a stadium! Best concert I have been to. Thanks for coming to Adelaide guys and this song, along with all the others off Wasting Light, rocks!
