Former Iron Maiden singer Paul Di'Anno continues to offer demos for fans to check out.
Earlier this week, he posted "Black Boots" (hear it here), while asking fans for feedback on the track as it may appear on an upcoming CD release.
Now, Di’Anno has added four more tracks to his YouTube channel (here), including "Can You Hear Me Now?", "Psycho Sniper", "Only Fools Die Laughing" and a "reworking" of the Iron Maiden classic "Running Free".
Ha can you imageine what Iron Maiden would sound like if he was still in the band? that's just a hypothetical question. I don't think he would have worked out as good as Bruce. Bruce basically is one of the reasons Maiden is so awesome but I think he did a good job with this track.
You know, if I had had never really heard the original version before, I probably wouldve enjoyed that more. It wasn't bad as its own song though. Kinda a cool groove to it. When I saw him on Christmas last year he did all of iron maiden some of the killers album and it was sped up and kinda thrashy and it was kinda Fuckin awesome to hear maiden as a thrash band for the night. Pauls a good singer. His style has changed a log over the years but this was still kinda cool. Maiden is the shit with any Lineup. Minus the one with blaze. Up the irons!!!
Never heard the original, but I just listened to the cover first. Going from the cover to the original makes the 1980 almost not even sound metal in comparison.
Good arrangement, but definitely too different to compare them. Can definitely tell that Paul was more punk, where Bruce and the rest of the band was straight metal
this is not what i expected at all haha. not a fan. their debut with him is easily their best though, i mean, it only has ONE song that makes me cringe!
Question, why is he covering a song HE sang with iron maiden and messing it up? That's not a cover thats a 'reliving the glory days' thing and it sucks.
Typical - everyone was expecting the same exact song, but if he did that you all would complain he didn't add anything to it. I personally think this is a very interesting and fresh take although I think the "screaming" is a bit much.
I would love to see a Maiden tour with Di'Anno coming out first for about 5 songs doing some of their classics, then Blaze Bayley comes out and does Sign of the Cross, The Clansman, and a few other songs. Then Dickinson comes out about about 10 more songs. Then the set goes into an encore with all three coming out to sing Blood Brothers, and finally all three singing Iron Maiden.
I would love to see a tour, but at the very least maybe a one off with a Blu-Ray release of it.
The last 30 years this guy has just been like "Hey, I was on the first two Maiden records! ... Hello? Anyone?"
I find this to be pretty true actually :P
The song is of course not a cover at all - it's entirely remade. Sounds almost like industrial metal. Not really my thing, sounds like a bunch of riffs thrown together. I seriously didn't expect Di'Anno to scream like this, though.
Don't care for it at all. Stuff like this is why he's in the "where are they now?" folder. The only post Maiden stuff I dig at all the the first 2 Paul Di'Anno's Battlezone albums; Fighting Back and Children Of Madness.
I dont mind it (as long as you dont compare it to the superior original)Im into this kind of thing though not the best but good enough for me I like his vocals, its good to see hes trying new things (even on an old thing) but it is a reworking not so much a cover still Maiden for life \m/UP THE IRONS \m/
I was actually kind of excited to first hear this, but it was disappointing. Killers is one of my favorite Maiden albums, I thought his singing was amazing back then. This is just kinda sad.
the redux could have been better, although that sounds nothing like the old paul, still people change and so do vocals so it's only natural that it's changed. also I personally prefer the original but I'll always prefer it when bruce does it.
If this were a new and original song instead of a "reworking" of a timeless classic, I feel like it would probably get more respect than it is now. It sounds decent as its own song but compared to the original "Running Free" both Paul's voice and the song pale in comparison.
Paul Di Anno just needs to give up and stop making covers or trying to bring his maiden times back. Give it up dude there's a reason they got Bruce and let you go
you gotta appreciate that he reworked it into a more modern sound instead of sounding more 80s. but i agree with whoever said the riffing needs to be more creative.
i'm always surprised people like bruce era better than than paul era. Killers is so good. Yeah bruce is a better singer but dio was better than ozzy and I doubt many would argue heaven and hell is better than masters of reality. Just sayin.
To be honest I love the the remake as well as the original. It's really interesting to se how his voice has changed this much comparing to the original. He sounds like Matt Barlow to me.
That was nice! Actually I would love maiden as much, maybe even more if they would sound like this! Maiden is my #1 band of all time, but I still mostly like more agressive and brutal stuff, so if maiden would be agressive and brutal.....
Whoa... had to hit the STOP button. I guess he has to find a way to pay back his debt to the government (for defrauding the employment system) by riding on the coattails of Maiden. Sad.
PdA is incapable of writing any new materials that isn't crap, so why not cash in on his brief moment of glory (likely thanks to Steve Harris). First 2 Maiden albums were brilliant, but it's time for Paul to do something new on his own, or get a new job.

Please?
No way man. This version is trash. Blaze was terrible. Dickinson is the only one who can complement the music of Maiden with talent.
Lol, people didn't get what I meant and disliked my comment. I didn't say the original version is bad, but it definitely doesn't sound heavy against Di'Anno's cover.
