Green Day debuted a new track, which is titled "Carpe Diem", during a live show in San Francisco - you can listen to it now.
The band performed the track, along with a selection of other new songs, during a secret show at San Francisco's Mezzanine venue on Tuesday (November 1).
Last month Green Day performed fifteen new tracks at a surprise last minute show for fans at the Tiki Bar 1700 Placentia in California last week.
Strange i was just listening to their last 2 albums in the car today, anyways...It really doesnt sound like Green Day have made the effort to change up techniques in their music since American Idiot (which i must say after hearing again was quite a grand effort for them) and then 21st Century felt like a less intense, continued effort without the string of catchy anthems and what not while still holding SOME new nice melodic moments. But with the flat out punk tracks I feel perhaps Green Day are falling behind...but i hope that I'm wrong Will wait to hear and see what a new album offers
Some of those chords they played on the chorus sounded like the same ones they used in Jesus Of Suburbia. Anyways very catchy tune and it's good to hear they're working on a follow up so we don't have to wait 5 years to hear a new album. I hope they release it sometime in 2012. Very excited to hear their new material.
21st was pretty awesome, but everything they've released since (this, cigarettes etc) just sounds like they forgot to put some songs on shenanigans and playing it now... Note that Shenanigans is their worst album
Why is this news? I'm surprised this isn't followed by an article about Bret Michael's dry cleaning. Green Day is terrible. That crap in the video was some of the most repetitive drivel I've ever heard.
Least it sounds better than 21stCB. If they go back to a Nimrod/Dookie sorta sound I'll be happy. If that alienates this new wave of 12 year old chart teens, even better.
Green Day rock. They have been refining their sound since the beginning. That's why I didn't get why people were all surprised when "American Idiot" came out. It had pieces of every CD that preceded it. The experimental use of alternate instrumentation, the lyrical content...even the song structure of the songs were nodded at in previous releases. Warning sold horribly, but it was the next natural step. As for the new stuff...I like it, but not as much as say...Nimrod era Green Day. It's like they took all of the attitude out of their music and put it into the Foxboro Hot Tubs.
Greenday still has never topped dookie and never will. They no longer have punk attitude or punk music. The only thing that makes their music sound a little bit punk is how simple their shit is. they are terrible now, face it. 21 guns off that one 21st album is perhaps the single worst song I have ever heard in my life. Hands down.

Because it's your opinion, it's obviously true, right?
And i knew it before i even watched High Fidelity.
I would've believed you, if you didn't mention the movie... I know that E equals M C squared, and I did not get it from Einstein.
Anyways, until I heard the lyrics, I can't really decide. The tune is pretty catchy, but that's not the only reason I listen to music :P
I grew up listening to SLF because my mum used to be a punk, i also heard green day as a kid and it wasn't hard to work out how much they owe them.
I first watched High Fidelity a week ago. Go figure.
Green Day is a disgrace to humanity.. what they call "songs" is nothing more than the sounds of a crying baby having it's eyes gouged out and puking to death.

I have never heard a baby that was crying and having its eyes gouged out and puking to death make a melody or lyrics. Your trolling was an absolute fail.
To all you people hating on Green Day saying they are the worst band around and have the worst albums around, I say go have a listen to Lulu in its entirety, no stopping, no pausing nothing, and I can bet you will change your tune.
2. I really don't want it to go down this way. The chords AND rhythm to the pre-chorus is exactly the same as the bridge in 'Before the Lobotomy.' And 21st Century Breakdown had its share of moments that closely resembled moments from American Idiot.
I'm scared that the band that got me into music in the first place is growing stale.
This would be a very welcome return, 21stCB was just horrible. ( I just cant listen to it, it's really bad ). Bring back another american idiot, or dookie album anyday.

Well SOMEONE isn't a Sonic Youth or Butthole Surfers fan, then ;D
Well, good. They're releasing another album. That means another US tour eventually. Like him or not, you have to acknowledge that Billie Joe is one of the most energizing and entertaining front men of this generation.

Well that's because Cigarettes is from the lost album Cigarettes and Valentines that was supposed to be released before American Idiot. The tapes were stolen, and they scrapped the album to work on AI. It isn't something new.

What?!!!? At least they play REAL INSTRUMENTS well!! Unlike that pop/rap or hip hop shit you listen to!!
Look, I'm not saying you do, but how could you think Green Day is a disgrace to humanity when Rihana is just shit mixed by a 30 year old virgin in his mums basement!

shenanigans was a compilation album. what more can u expect from it?
I like greenday, I really do, I've watched their bullet in a bible live DVD many a time and think its untouchable.....but....i'm getting a bit fed up with the whole emo-esqueness. You know? Its getting a bit sanctamonious and preachy. Still sounds good but I think they need to keep it simpler.
