Green Day had a few surprises for their UK fans over the weekend.
The band played an unscheduled set at the Reading Festival on Saturday, with frontman Billie Joe Armstrong tweeting the news just before the group hit the stage.
"Green day - READING FESTIVAL CONFIRMED!! On stage in 45 minutes! In the NME / RADIO 1 tent. 11am!! Be there!" tweeted Armstrong.
The band’s hour-long set covered most of their career, and included the debut of "Stay The Night", a new track from the forthcoming "Uno" album due out next month, as well as the project’s lead single, "Oh Love".
Green Day will release their trilogy of new albums – "¡Uno!", "¡Dos!", and "¡Tré!" - on September 25th, 2012; November 13th, 2012, and January 15th, 2013, respectively.
I was bummed they didn't play Leeds Festival. I didn't mind too much, because I've already seen them, but still, I hate it when Reading gets special stuff like this, just because it was the first out of the two.
Reading is Shit now anyway, Nobody goes for the music. people just go because its a huge festival and a chance to get on BBC Three. Most of the bands gave shit performances but foo fighters, green day and the cure looked pretty awesome tbh. Reading is a special festival, its part of rock history but its not the same as it was during the 90s
ugh...well, at least the new generation has a new green day to love and call their own....i personally stop listening to new stuff years ago, not ignoring it, just not enjoying it much. it's just very weird seeing them now. the crowd looks like a bunch of young adult teenyboppers, if that makes sense....maybe hipsters is a better word
Yeah, and that's way lamer than 'Of course, I only like the early stuff' hipsters who cut all ties with bands as soon as they get mainstream success...
(I can't bring myself to add a smiley face, because I'm older than 25 and it just feels wrong, but this is meant as a matey shot in the arm, not abuse of a faceless stranger across the Internet. Tone of voice is so hard to convey in writing...)
I'm all for bands trying new things, but I wonder how much of this new music is Green Day wanting to try new things, and how much it is that they're making music that sells.
this band can't do any good anymore it seems... this is better then 21CB, and still people whine about how they went mainstream and shit..
I'll tell ya what.. those guys have so much money they can stop doing this, but they still do it for fun, and they do what they want. get over it. Hell if they would make pre- american idiot songs nowadays i bet it still wouldn't be good enough for all you full-blown critics.
21st century breakdown was a letdown in my opinion. atleast the new song isn't sum political acoustic ballad =\ i think it sounds decent for a band who've been out for 20years. everyone changes, if they didn't then people would complain they're still the same band as in 94'
There's no old Green day. It's just Green day. Billie, Mike and Tre (+Jason). They've grown up musicaly with AI and 21CB, and now they just wanna have fun...Nothing wrong with that.
I'm not the biggest fan of Green Day, and I feel a little silly for defending them.. But I guarantee if they went back to their roots and started making stuff like their old music again, half of you guys would moan about how they were trying to make more money by appeasing to what people want from them.
Come on guys, I know you've got it in you to stop being so miserable when it comes to this kind of stuff. Be happy!
I read an interview with him where he said "I did the 'big Marshalls" thing for 20yrs, it's time for something different.". Ive gotta say, I'm really liking the guitar tones in these new songs. And clearly by that video he isn't using Marshalls, does anyone know what amps/speakers he's playing on the new stuff and in that video?
