Green Day: Dos! Now Streaming

The second of Green Day's latest trilogy of albums, "Dos!", is scheduled for release on November 13th. But, ahead of that, the band has released a full stream of the album online. You can hear the record at the following location.

Green Day's latest trilogy of records is very much shaping up to the band's own Sandinista!, the triple disc set of eclectic musical influences that The Clash released back in 1980. But while the Clash played with the conventions of dub, hip-hop, folk and reggae on that album, Green Day's obsession on Dos! is clearly with pop music of the 50s and 60s. On this latest volume, the band makes that clear from the very start, with the Dylanesque intro "See You Tonight" segueing into "F--k Time", a track which feels like an anarchic twist on early Beatles. "Stop When The Red Lights Flash" makes reference to the band’s punk roots, yet classic pop pastiche comes into play again, with the employing of Beach Boys style backing vocals at the song’s middle-eight.

"Stray Heart", the album’s lead single, could have been written for the Shirelles or the Supremes, and indeed, wouldn’t have been out of place in the set of the band’s retro-revival side project Foxboro Hot Tubs. "Ashley" and "Baby Eyes" at the album’s mid point go for uncomplicated Green Day punk rock. "Nightlife", meanwhile, which comes near the record’s close, toys with dirty blues before transforming into straight-up hip-hop.

I just... I just don't know how I feel about this one and Uno. It's like Green Day tried to go back to their "older sound," but all that happened is they made all the songs sound the same again.

They're sounding like the Foxboro Hot Tub's album again, but the songs aren't as good.

The only song that definitely sounds like FHT is Fuck Time, because that was originally one of their songs. The majority of the songs sound entirely different from FHT, and those with similarities are minor.

A few good tracks... I dunno. Green Day seem to be in a bit of a middle ground... the harder/faster tracks don't hit hard enough, and the softer tracks just seem to be in the same vein as their last album which I didn't overly like.

Also, not a huge fan of the vocals... they seem more polished than their old records. I know Armstrong has improved as a singer, but I liked the more raw sound.

I also feel like the bass was more prominent in their older records. Maybe this is all just a result of hearing it via YouTube...

Seems like the guitars aren't as distorted either anymore.

I mean, listen to this:

Well, imo Mike did the best job since Insomniac.
Catchy on Stray heart, a bit creepy and lazy on Nightlife and just kickass on Makeout party. I really dig the back vocals too.

say whatever you want..... but you have to admit this is sympathic move from them..... 3 discs full of music in a year, is alway better than 1 shit in 4 years like LP.... still its rocknroll and if you dont like every song you still find your favorite ones

I really enjoy this album, except for Nightlife. I knew it had that chick rapper in it, but I gave it a chance, gave it a few listens... honestly that song is the shittiest thing they've ever released. The rest of the album is good though

Actually, I really liked it. I was a bit "afraid" when they first announced it but when I hear the preview on BBC1 I was blown away. Lyrics and rapping are good, but nothing special, but Mike's creepy, lazy bass and Billie's lazy voice with a suiting vocal effect are just amazing. It's pretty catchy too.

At first I was shocked at the song and kinda pissed and thought it totally blew. Even though I like hip hop and punk rock, I didnt think I liked it together like that. But I find myself listening to that track over and over. I still am not sure if I like it but it may be growing on me. But yeah definitely not their best song ever..

Not feeing this album. Took me some convincing to get in to UNO and that was a decent album. This one just doesn't seem to have what I'd like to hear.

I really enjoyed this record, but I could have done without Nightlife, at least the rap-ish parts. I thought the vibe of it was cool but eh. Still, I can't wait for Tre!

Green Day may have changed and evolved over the years, but the songs they bring out still kick ass, even if they change genre every now and then, and I don't know if you've ever had the pleasure of seeing them live, but I have and as far as the live performance goes, they're age makes no difference what so ever!! Absolutely amazing shows!!

I agree & disagree with most of you.
Uno! had a very good first impression with a more of a Happy/angry emotions to it. But it didn't have songs which goes with the other emotions people experience.
Dos! on the other hand doesn't have an as good 1st impression as Uno! ,but when you start to feel the emotions of the album , it definitely gets better. (It did happen to me ) In my opinion Dos! > Uno!
