: don't expect any of their past CDs, sorry buddy. it is NOT just pop-punk. they grew out of the "fun song" stage (in fact, the only one i'd really call "fun" is Holiday). they didn't get completely serious, but the songs are much more mature - and better written, better done, with better everything.

Just to let you know that Dookie was far from their first album (i don't mean it in a bad way tho, so please don't take any offense), i guess you never heard of 1,039 or Kerplunk. You should go check them out, they're actually quite good.
As for the new album... I usually get bored of really long songs, but not with this. With the transitions and just the overall nice flow of every song, i can't stop playing this (maybe it's just cause i've always loved Green Day so much).
