Song gets radio debut, while first of the band's tour dates is scrapped
The latest single from Green Day
, titled "Stray Heart"
, has debuted on Zane Lowe's Radio 1
show, and is now streaming over at Green Day Authority
The track, which was originally expected to be an Idiot Club
exclusive stream, is the first single from "Dos!"
, the second in the band's trilogy of albums that is being released in the coming months. As Green Day Authority notes, the track is in a garage rock style that the band had previously experimented with in their Foxboro Hot Tubs
The news of Green Day's latest single also coincides with the cancellation of their upcoming performance at the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience
festival in New Orleans. As MTV reports
, the band was supposed to play at the event on October 27th, but has pulled out, because of front man Billie Joe Armstrong
's rehab for substance abuse issues. The singer checked into rehab after an outburst at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas late last month.
Speaking with Zane Lowe
, bassist Mike Dirnt
noted how the pressures of touring and recording had affected the band:
"there were signs of things hitting the fan... we hadn't slept in forever and Billie had definitely had the worst of it. He'd been going through his own struggles ... We were there with him but you can only handle things on your own ... At the end of the day when we got off the road the most important thing was my friend's life."
Dirnt also noted that, while he hasn't seen Billie Joe in some time, he is confident that the band will be able to work past recent issues:
"I'm sure Billie's had it really rough... There's been very little contact between us, so I guess I'm just generalizing, but it's a pretty heavy-duty process ... This is probably the longest time we haven't seen each other - I haven't seen Billie in weeks ... It's an awkward position to be in, but we're going to pander this out. We'll get there."
