KISS have released their new single, "Hell Or Hallelujah".
The song is the lead track from the band's 20th studio album, "Monster", due in October.
Produced by Paul Stanley, the album is the group's first studio effort since 2009's "Sonic Boom".
The project features collaborations among all four KISS members - including co-founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, and longtime members guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer.
"There are no symphony orchestras, boy choirs, keyboards, outside producers or songwriters on this album," says Simmons.
"The best thing we did was to turn inwards to ourselves. Tommy and Eric have revitalized this band, with a work ethic and the talent to back it up. This is a real band effort. KISS has become a behemoth. We're going where no bands have gone before."
KISS head out on a summer tour of North America with Motley Crue; shows begin July 20 in Bristow, VA.
Jesus Christ. This is not ****in "Classic" KISS. This sounds like something from the 80s. You know it, even if you won't admit it.
Well, the only self-referential generalization for the sound of this album that I've heard them make is that it sounds like Destroyer meets Revenge .
Although those are my two personal favorite KISS albums, and this song doesn't exactly compare to them in terms of song quality, I'd say that analogy didn't sound too far-fetched.
However, I also agree that this sounds like 80s KISS -- mostly since their material from the 80s essentially was like a middle-ground between their late 70s material and their later output from the very late 80s/very early 90s.
Also, musically, this song is pretty ****in' rockin' (but I secretly still miss Bruce Kulick).

See every time they are about to put out a new album they compare it to previous efforts. In this case, they compared it to their biggest album, Destroyer. And their biggest album probably since Destroyer, Revenge.
There is just no merit in what Gene or Paul says because it's always clearly BS. "This is our heaviest record yet". "We are tighter than ever". Etc.. They say the same sh1t every time.
I'd respect them more if they just straight up admitted that they tried to emulate their 70s peak but just wound up sounding like the b sides to Crazy, Crazy Nights. At least they'd be honest. I realize though, that wouldn't happen.
I personally think Carnival of Souls was their best album since the late 70s. Vastly underrated album.
And I also admire Bruce Kulick. I used to not really get into him until I met him and saw him at a KISS convention a few years ago. He is a great player and a great guy.
Pretty much the classic KISS sound here. I like the riffs in it. It does sound a lot like everything else, but as someone already said, they found a sound that works.

I am a huge KISS fan. But yes I too miss Bruce Kulick. And I agree that they are making songs that do sound like b sides to Crazy Nights. (I laughed when I read that!) But for some reason KISS (especially Paul Stanley) wanted to make albums again. This at a time when they are stuck wearing make-up but without two original members. It's a weird situation for them to be in now.
