I love how the picture says "Meshuggah" but it just shows Haake. But yeah, this is a great album, but I think "Catch 33" is still Meshuggah's masterpiece.

And Cynic and Pain Of Salvation, if they both release a new album this year.

Cynic won't be the same without Sean Malone.

toatally agree man
that album is definitely on the list of albums you have to listen to at least once in your life.

although when i first bought it i hated it.
then one day i put in my car stereo for a semi long drive with the volume up.
oh man that was awesome!

Yeah, it's not an album to casually listen to. You have to listen to it all the way through a couple times to get the most out of it, which is a shame considering most people dismiss it within the first few songs.

The album cover is somehow disturbing, not in a cannibal corpse way, but truly disturbing. Meshuggah are ok but I still hate the vocals...

These guys are insane (not meaning mentally) (but they very well could be) Nonetheless, their music is sick (here we go again)

Most "brutal" sounding drums I've ever heard. Take note death metal artists everywhere, you don't need 352 kick drums a second to be br00t4lz.

Am I the only one disappointed with obZen? It's good, but nothing new and nothing special from Meshuggah. You can just put on Destroy Erase Improve and Chaosphere and not miss out really.

meshuggah takes most other metal bands, pisses on them, shits on them, takes pictures of the mess, melts the picture material down, forms them into little gifts to give out.

I already heard it, It's awesome, but imo it's not as innovative as C33 (which is still my fave album)

A must-buy nonetheless

Not on obZen. Catch-33 was the DFH programmed by Haake (with his drums sampled).

Sean Malone was a session guy hired to play bass because he worked at the studio they were recording at, if memory serves.

It is a good album. I really like it. I'd go as far to say Meshuggah is the most original metal band I have ever heard.
I remember first listening to New Millennium Cyanide Christ... Blew my mind. So i looked to see what their "regular" songs sounded like. Turned out to be just one of their regular songs. =O

2 things.

1 obZen is NOT A DRUM MACHINE, Catch 33 was because Haake was recovering from surgery I believe.

2 obZen is amazing.

Catch 33 is bum fluid. The first 3 songs have one riff between them. As do songs 4, 5 and 6. I know it's all one song, but jees, for 5 minutes they juist play the same riff over and over?

I love Meshuggah though. All the other releases kick arse, including the new one which I have =]

That's one of their most simple songs... the wikipedia page makes it look much more comlicated than it actually is.
Anyways, this album look interesting, Bleed's pretty good. Especially the guitar solo, it's a standout amongst other Meshuggah solos.

If you think that then you need to give it a few more listens. Catch 33 rewards the patient listener.
