Metallica have unveiled their wild new stage show at an eight-day run in Mexico City, which really has to be seen to be believed.
Thankfully one fan has pulled together an array of clips from across YouTube so the best moments can be seen in one place.
The show features a compilation of visual elements from across their 30-year career, including the classic Snake Pit stage design fro their "Black Album" tour.
The 140x50 foot stage is lit by frequent fireworks and bursts of flame, and at one point a stagehand is set alight as if by accident.
It's a shocking sight, but old fans will remember similar accidents being pulled on their "Cunning Stunts" DVD in 1998.
Watch the incredible 8-minute edit of their live highlights here. How many live elements do you recognise, and from which tours? Post your answers in the comments.
I bet it's for the 3D movie. Can't wait for it now!
The whole 3D movie project is finished, so probably not.
Actually, the 3D project is being filmed in Vancouver at the 2 shows there at the end of this month
Blammo this right here, 3D movie isn't even filmed yet, I am going to both shows here in Vancouver should be ****ing sick. And yes even if you aren't a huge Metallica fan they do a really damn good live show very high energy.
It does seem like maybe someone hipped them to what Rammstein has been doing (live) for many years. If so, that can only be a good thing. Now if only the new (Metallica) music could be as crushing as the 'Stein's...
Not bad, but I expected more from shows that were suposed to rival the Wall. Look at Rammstein shows. Now they know how to blow your mind with pyrotechnicks.
I missed these guys when they went to India for the first time back in October, but now I'm going to see them in Vancouver on August 24th. Worth it? YEAH
While I appreciate what they're doing, the craziest live shows I've ever seen involved bands portraying sincere passion for their music, not pyrotechnics.
Quick point: I'm not saying Metallica aren't passionate about what they do. I'm just saying that fireworks and props don't do much for me because I'm there for the music.
I don't really see a whole lot that is new in this video.
The stage looks like an updated version of the one they toured with in 1998, pyro is always expected with their shows, and the rigging collapsing with the dude on fire is also recycled from the 1998 tour.
The stage they used on the 1991 tour is still my favorite of all the production I've seen from them.

Its supposed to be a stage show that has elements spanning from their 30 year career, of course there's elements in there that you've already seen.
It really is ridiculous that no matter what this band does there will always be a select group of people complaining about how it's "not good enough"
This is neat stuff and all, but I wonder how much time all this production takes to set-up, how much it costs, and how much it's all built into the ticket prices. Maybe this is just me, but if I'm paying more for tickets, I'd rather it be for seeing them in a smaller venue, on a smaller stage, with a more intimate and musical direction of the show. I wanna see my favorite bands spend 100% of their energy on the music alone, and not on a gigantic stage where theyre all 100 feet apart facing different directions. If I wanna see a circus, I'll go see a circus. I'm sure though I'm gonna get shat on by everyone for saying this.

Actually, Im going to this show tomorrow, and tocket prices were pretty cheap for a metallica show
The man on fire was funny to see again, but it's just not the same without James yelling "Hey, what the F*CK?!" But whatever, he's only thinking about the kids like a good father should. Plus the stage collapsing was pretty cool. Overall... pretty damn sweet. I won't say it's the most intense live performance from any band, but I would have loved to be there. Damn you, student expenses.
Hell yeah. I'm seeing this in Vancouver.
I bought my youngest brother his first concert ticket for this show, and he is super pumped. (Don't worry, he's not a little kid. He's 14.) In fact I'm bringing all my brother's. It's going to be awesome!
no offence but, WHY DOES MEXICO CITY ITSELF GET 8 DAYS OF SHOWS!!!!! this stuff looks pretty mad though
I think the most loyal Metallica fans are from there. The original plan was 4 shows but the tickets were SOLD OUT in less than a week/day and still there's a high demand for dates in Mexico City so Metallica decided to double the dates to satisfy that demand.
To those who said that they are sellouts, yeah right... They sold out every show!

they should do a bit where they reenact Hetfield blowing his hand up
The best show I have ever seen and there are fags complaining about how its not good enough... Metallica still playing after 30 years is already awesome enough, and now they have this kick ass show, its ****ing awesome .. Now I regret cancelling my trip to Mexico

WRONG!
Metallica are filming the concert footage of their 3D movie spread over TWO shows here in Vancouver, the rest of it will be shot over the span of 2 weeks here.
Lars was interviewed on our rock station, 99.3 The Fox and specifically said this.
I didn't watch any of the concert footage posted here, because I want it to be a surprise when I go on August 25th with my 3RD ROW tickets.
Yes I've paid an arm and a leg for them, yes I've seen them half a dozen times, but this is definetely gonna be the one that was worth every dime I spent.
They have said themselves that it's the live stuff they don't care if bootlegged (as it's different every time) but the studio stuff is what they care about.
I just wished they'd stop touring for 5 years between albums.
I don't know, Jean Michelle Jarre puts on wonder of the craziest live shows i've ever seen. Plus he seems to play every instrument under the bloody sun/
"Look, we've got so much effin' money that we can invest in a crazy tour like this and we'd still be rich if we made no money off it. But that's not going to happen, becuase you're all going to pay big bucks for tickets, it's going to sell out, and everybody's going to buy tons of merch."
