Radiohead is streaming its two new songs on YouTube for free. Scroll down to hear them.
"The Daily Mail" and "Staircase" were recorded during "The King Of Limbs" album sessions, but ultimately didn't make the cut. The first is named after a British newspaper with right-wing views, and starts with a plain piano and vocal mix before launching into a heavy Beatles-influenced ending. The second is more a funky jam backed by thick synth pads and the classic Jonny Greenwood delayed guitar effect.
The cover art appears to show the hollow ancient tree which the album takes its "King Of Limbs" name from. The original tree is renown for being difficult to find, with a report by DIY suggesting that few know where to find it and less are prepared to tell.
The new songs are available to buy in full quality from select traditional retailers. The release follows and official remix album, and the leak of two early demos from the band before Jonny Greenwood joined the band, when they were called On A Friday after the day the group met to rehearse.
Meanwhile, the band are rumored to be headlining Coachella Festival next year, possibly alongside Foo Fighters and No Doubt, according to a rumour detailed by NME.
What do you think of the songs? Does it improve on "The King Of Limbs", or were you a fan of their dubstep infused record anyway? Let us know what you think in the comments.
you people need to learn there's more dubstep than just Skrillex. Radioead said themselves it was influenced by electronic like dubstep. Look up Loofah or DMZ and learn REAL dubstep, you wankers!
Radiohead is heavily influenced by Massive Attack, but they themselves have influenced original dubstep artists like Burial. Original dubstep in the UK was way different from this distorted noises and bass drop shit we have think of today in the U.S. I think the writer of this article was intentionally trolling Radiohead fans, haha.
Firstly: Not at all dubstep.
Secondly: These songs were WRITTEN during the KoL sessions but not recorded; these are definitely the From the Basement versions.
Thirdly: Why do I even read the news?
1) These songs are old as shite. Any Radiohead fan would have heard these a long time ago.
2) These songs are mediocre Radiohead songs (altho Staircase is growing on me)
3) The King of Limbs is a fantastic album.
4) The King of Limbs was based on electronic music. Thom Yorke LOVES electronic music.
5) That being said. Thom Yorke HATES dubstep. There is a difference U-G. Don't believe me? Thom posts playlists of what he is listening to all the time on Radiohead's "Dead Air Space" website. None of it is dubstep. Go listen to his playlists.
Hi guys, Tom from UG here. ANyone who doesn't hear the (original) dubstep influence might have missed the early UK dubstep movement, which sounded nothing like the buzzing entity that dubstep has become.
Looks like the commenter 'jacobdubya' hit the nail on the head. Radiohead (or rather, Kid A) was a big influence on early dubstep and with the King of Limbs it came full circle.
To 'rbramble18' who says Thom Yorke hates dubstep - I'd suggest that Thom hates *new* dubstep, if anything. He has often cited his fandom for Burial, who is considered the founding father of dubstep. That was back when it still had roots un UK garage (a type of inner city dance/soul music).
Anybody checked the link to the DIY story? I couldn't help but have a Gallagher lol-moment when I saw the King of Limbs. A tree? It's kinda strange looking, but a tree?

where are these playlists on the site? I can't find them
The Daily Mail is not a newspaper with right-wing views by the way guys, it's not quite worthy of that title. I'd go more for racist fascist gossip-rag
I'm quite disappointed that they didn't record a more in-depth version of these songs - a lot of their music is usually lush and detailed with a lot of little effects, that they can't pull off to the same extent during a live performance. Staircase definitely could've used that treatment, but I guess The Daily Mail is better off sounding more natural.

He posted a playlist featuring a remix done by James Blake, which is most definitely dubstep. A couple of earlier playlists include Burial, another dubstep artist.
The people here who are shitting on dubstep need to go learn how varied of a genre dubstep actually is. Burial and Boxcutter are nothing like Skrillex or Borgore. And then there's the g-funk influenced stuff like Joker.
Granted, I'm not much of a Radiohead/Thom Yorke fan, but I just felt like ranting. King of Limbs might very well be influenced by dubstep, and none of you idiots would know because you think dubstep is just random wubs and wobbles.
I'm not saying the people who dislike dubstep are stupid, I'm just saying you should know what you're hating before you hate on it. And if you hate dubstep because of Skrillex, you don't know what you're hating on.
This is one of the Burial tracks Thom Yorke posted on the playlist:

I think 3/4 of the UG staff is mentally retarded. You must have ZERO musical knowledge if you think The King if Limbs was dubstep influenced. Dear god, this website used to be great. Now we're lucky to have one good article per month. Anyways, Staircase is pretty boss.

You probably read the news for the same reason I do... To read the comments

yeah guys, guess I was referring to new dubstep/Skirllex stuff. not really a fan of that stuff. i didnt realize James Blake was considered dubstep, i love James Blake. My bad guys.
