It was a long day for Lollapalooza festivalgoers Saturday (Aug. 4) after being evacuated due to major thunderstorms, but once they were allowed to return for the rest of the day of music performances they were rewarded with a late night Red Hot Chili Peppers headlining set.
The band appeared no worse for wear as they took the stage with the boundless energy that fans have become accustomed to. Their evening began with a rousing rendition of "Monarchy Of Roses", the second single from their "I'm With You" album. That was followed by "Around The World", and pro-shot footage of the song has found its way online (and thus can be seen below).
The freshly-minted Rock and Roll Hall of Famers worked in a number of hits during their 16-song set, including "Otherside", "Can't Stop", "The Adventures Of Raindance Maggie", "Under The Bridge" (video seen below), "Californication", "By The Way", and the set closer, "Give It Away".
All in all, it was a fun way to wrap up a trying day and left concertgoers on a high note with one day of performances remaining for Lollapalooza 2012.

I wish they would play more surprises these days, I seen them recently at Croke Park in Dublin and found myself zoning out during songs like 'Can't Stop' (seriously does anyone want to hear that song again?) but nearly had a fit when they played 'Higher Ground'. Still a decent gig, but I think they would really benefit on holding back on some of the singles!
^ Why? Their singles and their not as popular songs are all great and equal. I'd be happy to hear them play anything. I guess it's a matter of opinion though :p
I was really hoping that with the Froosh gone, I might notice some One Hot Minute songs slipping into their set-lists. However, this doesn't seem to be the case. Oh well. =/
Suppose they have a lot of blow ins that only know the singles so it's just damage control, but as a big fan the last 2 gigs I've seen have a been a little disappointing. Shit, I even heard somebody shout 'play a good song' after they played 'Me & My Friends' in 2011. Blasphemy!

When I saw them last year they played Hard to Concentrate and Charlie from Stadium Arcadium. No one was expecting that.

Yeah, I totally agree. I would love to hear them play Walkabout, it's probably my favorite off of that record.
I was at Lolla for all 3 days. Heres the rundown on the headliners. Black Sabbath was a letdown, Ozzie doesnt have it anymore and sounded bad. We left after 4 songs to see the start of the Black Keys. Black Keys were polished and sounded amazing even though they played an identical setlist to the rest of their tour this year. Chili Peppers killed it and made up for the long delay earlier in the day. Jack White was a true guitar god and he even busted out Steady As She Goes, Hardest Button, and 7 Nation Army for the encore. Great festival, highly recommend it.

I was praying they would play it when they were in montreal, it's a shame they didn't but i still had a great time!

They played Hard To Concentrate in Dublin too, but most songs were singles. They basically played the Greatest Hits cd

Pretty sure their cover of "Higher Ground" was one of their biggest singles...helped break them through to the main stream. And no, I for one, will never get tired of hearing "Can't Stop" live!
That said, I understand wanting to hear deeper cuts (I love all of their music), but how can you expect that for a festival show.
And as others have said, they usually throw a couple of deep cuts and fan favorites into their setlist. I saw them in Orlando on this tour and they played "Sir Psycho Sexy", "Hard to Concentrate", "Me and My Friends"...it was aweosome! Plus, I love that they're pushing forward and playing a lot of I'm With You live!
Saw them at Knebworth, they played a great mix, Soul To Squeeze, Higher Ground, as well as the more standard songs, would have love to have seen Me and My Friends or Blackeyed Blonde, something from the Hillel era, they played Me and My Friends at the KOKO club in Camden last year and it was brutal...
Ozzy (not Ozzie) did struggle at times, but Sabbath were great overall. At 63, Ozz definitely shows the signs of his age but he had his moments where he shined as well. The replacement drummer was beyond solid and drove the band nicely. To leave Tony Iommi to see the Black Keys , then to call Jack White a guitar god... somethings amiss philosophically there. RHCP were solid, but I agree with the sentiment above... relying so heavy on "Hey Oh" and whatnot is a little weak. The Peppers best moments were the interlude jams. Overall solid show. Anthony Keidis's voice should not be so blown out as it is... his parts aren't that tough. Jack White was impressive and deserves all the praise he can get. A true muse of the blues. If only the album sounded close to as big as his live shows...
