Slash: New Single Preview

While the mixing stage of Slash's sophomore solo album, "Apocalyptic Love", continues, the guitar icon has unveiled a teaser clip to one of his new songs.

Slash has shared a preview of his first single, "You're A Lie", with Australia’s Triple M radio; the station reports they will premiere the full song on Monday.

"Apocalyptic Love" is due May 22; Slash begins a brief US tour on May 3 in Baltimore, with dates booked throughout the month.

Slash posted on Thursday:

"Mixing for the new record is going extraordinarily well, sounds really great. Will be posting a clip of 1 of the songs next week."

Not much of a fan of Slash's new work, He was epic with Guns and ok with Velvet Revolver. I feel his style has changed to fit in with todays mainstream music.

Yeah that was pretty disappointing, the guitar work is fine, it's just that the song sounds like anything you'd hear on mainstream radio, but you have to remember that Axl was more important to the success of GnR then Slash, Slash had the top hat and a few memorable riffs but I think any other guitarist would have been just as good, now you take away Axl from the band and it just wouldn't have been the same, although they might have still been together. Don't get me wrong Slash is sweet and I love his guitar playing but his popularity has always been based more on his look than his playing.

Yeah, because that top hat practically wrote the Sweet Child O' Mine solo by itself.

And all of a sudden, all of my concerns about Myles Kennedy are confirmed.

That clip sounded like shit, and I'm not just talking about the audio quality, either. The music sounded not so good, but the vocals and lyrics were downright horrible.

The songs that Myles Kennedy did on the first album already had their music completed, and all he did was write and record the vocals. This is the sort of thing we end up with when Myles Kennedy is involved from the beginning. It sounds no better than Alter Bridge, and it sounds as bad as the worst songs on his first album, which is extremely disappointing.

I'll still check out the rest of the album, and I still have hope for some good material on it, but I've heard enough of this song to know it sucks. I'll listen to the whole thing just to check the instrumental work, but I'm not too big on dance-rock.

And they also know that the rest of the band is pretty good, but not incredible, in a live setting.

slash_rocks does have a fair point, you can make big judgements on the quality of an album based on a short sample of a single. Singles these days are usually the weaker material (VH's 'Tattoo' for one) that, for some reason, the record companies think are the stronger songs. It's better to wait for the whole single before you make more accurate criticisms. It sounds reasonable to me, but I'll wait until I hear more before I reach a firmer decision.

^ 'Ghost' is super dope though, this clip doesn't really have me excited or worried! I won't pass judgement on the album til' I hear the full thing. Given that, I must agree with slaveskinJACKET in that Myles voice gives out a bit trying to sing out of his comfort zone, but because he had such a large part in writing this album I'm presuming (hoping) he wrote the vocal parts to fit his voice/range.

Actually I find the chord progressions to be pretty similar, and the type of distortion on the guitar is pretty similar too.

and actually, i saw them on that tour in Leeds, ive been to quite a few gigs, and it was the best ive been to, and slash, myles and the rest of the band performed the gnr songs as good as or even better than gnr.

We'll I'm just saying that if Slash didn't have his iconic look he'd probably be long forgotten by now, he is no good on his own and Myles Kennedy who may be a good singer technically doesn't have the personality to make Slash's music come alive, I enjoyed Velvet Revolver and obviously GnR were awesome but it's because he had a good frontman to keep his songs from sounding like generic rock, which is what this song sounds like. The only song I really enjoyed from his last album was "By The Sword" it was a great track and I don't even like Wolfmother but Andrew did a great job on that track, I think he would be a better fit for Slash than Myles, again I'm not saying Myles can't sing I actually saw him and Slash live a while back and he rocked the hell out of Sweet Child O' Mine but he is just not a very good songwriter.

And I actually enjoyed Chinese Democracy, Axl's voice is just so intense he can up the intensity level of a song whenever he wants.

hmmm i don't know! from the sound of everything i have heard from everyone in the original gnr camp.. i have come to the conclusion that without the original lineup together and focusing on the music .. individually not one of them is going to recapture that lightning in a bottle .but then again if they were to hook back up and try again they might not either. so i am going to hold on to the original recordings and be thankful for that. it really was a once in a lifetime band and i would hate to see them tarnish that like van halen did.....

I don't get Myles Kennedy, I don't really think he has that good of a voice. Sure he can hit all the notes but I find his voice really quite annoying and plane, and I find it painful to listen to him sing G N'R's songs live like Sweet Child. The reason it doesn't sound so good to most of you is because you keep playing Slash up in your mind to be something so much more because of how he stood in rock so many years ago.

it's pretty common today that the lead single of an album is the most commercial song of the album.. By The Sword was the lead single of his previous solo album and imo the weakest song of that album.

Umm,his top hat had nothing to do with Sweet Child. The song was written about Alxs girlfriend at the time.
Slash was screwing around with a warmup and Izzy came in and wrote the background chords,then Axl thought it sounded great and than wrote the lyrics.

Just hope the sound quality is better on the cd.
Its difficult to enjoy a song when it sounds like your
listening to it on a grammophone. Still a big Slash fan, previous album was excellent.

I agree with a lot of you, it sounds like a demo. Reminds me of the "Ain't life grand" album, raw edged, Myles is trying for a more hardcore sound, 6 out of 10, I won't judge the record on one demo.
