Soundgarden have released the video for "Live To Rise," the band’s first new song in 15 years.
The track is the first single from the soundtrack for the new film, "Marvel's The Avengers," which opens Friday. Also featured on the soundtrack are tunes from Shinedown, Rise Against, Bush and Five Finger Death Punch, among others.Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell told recently that the band were approached in early March to contribute a song to the film. They were working on their reunion album, a fall release of which is anticipated, and after going through their tracks nothing seemed appropriate.Cornell and guitarist Kim Thayil started from scratch and came up with "Live To Rise."
for the most part, the band shots don't look too dynamic and.. "impactful" for the most part.. i never understand videos like this, that don't orchestrate the footage according to the song. Things finally got interesting at the end with Kim's solo and the background explosion, but what about the first three minutes? Doesn't do justice to this awesome song imho. ESPECIALLY as their first original video in so long. just my two cents
He doesn't even play a Gibson...
Also try listening to the f***ing lyrics.
What are you talking about... doesn't even play a Gibson? Struggle with the reading comprehension on the SAT? These lyrics are lame compared to SG (Sound - Garden... get it? S? G? stands for SoundGarden?) of old. Don't be such superfans... this song doesn't live up to their catalog and sounds more like Cornell's solo efforts.

Hit the nail on the head. But this is just a movie promo song, it's like Last Action Hero when they got all the modern rock bands together for a soundtrack. (Although Alice in Chains wrote two great songs for that soundtrack). Lets hope the new album outdoes this song tenfold
Too bad, the verse kinda sounds like a song from the superman soudntrack (or Nickelback !), but I guess it was to be expected considering the context...
Love the rest tough, the chorus grows on you : " Like the sun we will to rise. Like the sun we will live and die and then ignite again "
Ah Chris, you know we like it when you sing about sun and fire.
I'm sure the album will be "all soundgarden" and will be great.

Listen to Down on the upside, "Blow up the outside world" or "Overfloater" , or even Superunknown with "Fell on black days".
This sounds NOTHING like ANYTHING on Down on the Upside. Just because it's not grinding metal grunge sludge DOES NOT MEAN it's similar to those songs...
Just because it's a little mellower doesn't make it the same as the classics you mentioned. I am outright offended that you brought up Overfloater in the same conversation as this weakness. Give me a break. I swear for a guitar site there are people here who are made tone-deaf by their fanboyism... I love SG. They might be my favorite band of all time, but I hear their music for what it is... and this is SG mailing it in.
Alice2mudgarden... What The Hell Have I is insane! Love that tune. But I think this is gonna be on the album. I really hope not.
I still can't believe someone compared this to Overfloater. Come on...
