Below you can find a brief Q&A with the band:
UG: Your single “Headstrong” was a radio favorite back in 2003, hitting #1 on both the US Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock charts. If you could choose one song from the new studio album that might have that same kind of appeal, which one comes to mind?
Trapt: Well, that’s a tricky question because we are about to head up to Vancouver to record the new album in July and we will have an answer on that one hopefully by September!
We feel that there are definitely some songs that will hopefully have as much appeal as Headstrong did…..stay tuned.
Do you consider the new single “Stay Alive” to be a good representation of what we’ll hear on the rest of your upcoming studio record?
Stay Alive is a song that we all liked and felt that it was a good representation of the band in “rock” mode. It was also fitting because of the subject matter relative to some of the experiences the band has gone through in the last 12 months.
The new album will have elements from our past two records and we think that we have written some of the best music in our career.

Which member of the band initially came up with the idea for “Stay Alive”?
Simon had the opening riffs and Chris came up with the lyric and melody ideas while Pete and Monty filled in the rest.
Has the band made any changes to the way it approaches songwriting in general?
Not really, we all jam together in a converted garage at Pete’s house where he has a studio set up. Sometimes the band will record music for Chris to write lyrics to and other times Chris will bring lyrics, melodies and music to the band for us to work with. We wrote about 50 songs for the new album and most likely we will record 12 or 13. We’ve been writing this way for years and it seems to work…..
When you began to write new material, did you find yourself experimenting with new equipment or different sounds?
We definitely had a lot of experimentation. Musically we worked on material ranging from slaying metal to jazz interludes to pop stuff but ultimately once we put everything together we honed in on what felt right and what felt like Trapt.
Did you record all of your new live CD in one city or were the performances taken from multiple locations?
We recorded “Stay Alive” and “Everything To Lose” with a great engineer friend of ours Matt Thorne at MT Studios in Burbank. The rest of the album consists of live recordings taken from our last tour. We are still compiling the songs so it’s difficult to tell which recordings will make it and from where.
It’s also VERY important to us that our fans who come to see us will also be able to download every live song as a video in stereo and surround sound. This is something that we are offering for free. We refuse to charge our fans for these videos but they may have to go on a little scavenger hunt to find them!

Will there be any acoustic numbers featured on the live CD?
Hmmmm… maybe, perhaps and if the band figures out the right song to make acoustic then…. probably. We put up a demo of a song Chris did called ‘avelyn’ on our myspace page a while ago but it will likely not be on the album.
Is there anything that fans might be surprised to learn about the upcoming studio album?
We have enlisted our friend and co-producer of the first Trapt record GGGarth Richardson to help us make the new album. We are really excited about doing this.
Also, the new album won’t be coming out on Warner Bros. Records and either will the Live album.
So expect a lot of great changes and good news in the coming weeks and months.
