According to Blabbermouth.net, "In Waves", the new video from Florida metal titans Trivium, can be seen below. The band appears but does not perform in the clip.
"In Waves" is the title track of Trivium's new album, "In Waves", which will be released on August 9 via Roadrunner Records. The follow-up to 2008's "Shogun" was recorded primarily at Paint It Black Studios in Orlando, Florida (with only the drums having been tracked at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida) with the production/mixing team of Colin Richardson (Machine Head, Bullet For My Valentine, Slipknot, Fear Factory) and Martin "Ginge" Ford, along with engineer Carl Bown.
Trivium exploded onto the global metal scene with its Roadrunner debut album, "Ascendency" (2005), which was certified gold in the U.K. (and earned the band the 2005 "Best New International Artist" honors in Kerrang! magazine). Extremely young at the time and with songwriting and musicianship far beyond their years, the band toured with giants of the metal world, including Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Metallica, Heaven & Hell and many more. Over the course of those years and albums - including 2006's "The Crusade" and 2008's "Shogun" - the band honed their skills even further, while sharpening their vision for the band and its music. In the words of vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy, this new album is the culmination: "'In Waves' to us... is Trivium. 'In Waves' is the music, the artwork, the videos and the live show; they are all part of an interconnected whole. There's no question about it, in our eyes, that this is the most complete project we've ever done. We think we've finally made the record that we’ve always strived to make."
While the tracks boast the guitar-driven edge that fans have come to love and expect from the band - pushing some of the tracks even further in their heaviness and aggression - the visual and lyrical world that "In Waves" inhabits is overall a fantastic leap forward for the band. Inspired as much by contemporary film and visual art as by the band's love of heavy music, all of the imagery - including album art, videos, stage sets and web properties - take Trivium into territory that few bands have the confidence, or vision, to visit. The visuals create the special world of "In Waves" where the entire album package will take the listener on a journey where the destination may not have even been decided yet, much less known. It's a wide, open road and one littered with darkness and other curiosities. The visual project was collaborative effort between the band and a team of select artists. The band and their artists created a new, unique and wholly original set of visuals that are like a graphic novel come to life.
There is a unifying theme to "In Waves", but it's not a concept album by any means. Heafy continued, "The album is not a concept record, but there is a certain theme to all of the visuals and sonically and visually it all ties together. We are very proud of what we've accomplished with 'In Waves' and we are excited to share it with everyone."

Great song, Im not a huge fan of the band but I'll buy this new album...The bald dude at the end kinda resembles Christian Bale...wonder if he flipped out on the lighting dude while shooting this hahaha.
"Okay guys, for this video you're gonna swim around in this lake for a while... maybe it would be cool if you splashed each other or something. Then you're gonna get out and just walk around through the woods for a bit. And... ACTION!"
I'll still probably buy the new album...
But even with the video, the song still doesn't do much for me...
Though I've heard some riffs from other songs that sound promising.
I love how people jump on this and start commenting with little to only half intelligence. The video itself is meant to be more a visual art, not your normal performance metal video. I personally enjoy it. And if you don't like, why do you waste your time coming here and posting about it? It's the internet, peoples opinions aren't really cared about (Mine won't be either). People come here to say 'trivium sucks lololol' and that's retarded. Everyone's entitled to their opinion but why go out of your way to comment on a band you don't like?

Why go out of your way to express your disapproval?
It sound like they are trying to "br00tz". It's a pretty boring from all aspects. It goes in on ear and out the other with really no memorable part.

Are you crazy? The comment section is there for comments, good or bad. Personally I read them and care, which is partially why I am answering to yours.
If you actually read the comments, there are only one or two comments which actually are negative towards Trivium, while many others simply expressed negativity towards this particular song, while enjoying previous material, which then makes sense to comment on, seeing as you did like them earlier but are discontent with the newer stuff. That is absolutely worth to comment.
a big letdown, I hoped for a more progressive and more metal effort...
pretty weak song, don't like the set up, not a good idea to start your song straight with a breakdown...
Not liking this song. It sounds to me like they took a step backwards on this one. . . it even sounds generic to me. And the video is god-awful boring. I don't care if it was made for the sake of "art" or not.
On a side note, I enjoyed Heafy's +5 Frost Resistance Vest. And the scream at the beginning of the song was him using "Battle Cry" to raise his parties' stats by 5, but I think it backfired and lowered them.

Agreed. I don't hate this song, but in comparison to the writing, and technical progress they had shown throughout Shogun, this just seems like a lazy effort..
Seems like they are changing direction similar to Atreyu. However, I do not think it is a good choice for them. Ascendancy and Shogun were amazing albums. It sucks that they got tired of being creative in that vein. It was getting better as it went. This seems like they are trying to get on the radio. I understand that, but for me it makes for less creativity because stuff on the radio has to generally follow a formula to get popular. I hope the rest of the album goes a bit harder and more creative.
It's an ok song but nowhere near as epic as Shogun, and not enough brutal singing. Sounds too emo
So if someone sings clean, it becomes emo? I hope the album tracks are better than this, don't get me wrong I do like this song but IMO not as good as anything off Shogun.
Well, I like it more than Shogun, but I didn't really like Shogun at all. I'll have to hear the album as a whole before I can decide if I like it or not, though. I did like the song, though, except for the lyrics, but Trivium was always a little 'meh' lyrically, imo.
Im a massive Trivium fan but the video is pretty bad...I assume there will be better shit on the album obviously. Singles are never a good way to judge an album's quality.
from what i've heard this song is very different to the rest of the album is apperantly more like Shogun and they released the "different" song because people already know what trivium sounds like...and the video well it's wierd but spose it'll make more sense once this "visual and soundscape masterpiece" has been revealed never the less excited and defo buying the speacial edition
...why does everyone hate this song? If it's due to their 'change in style', if anything, the verse and chorus in this song sound very 'trivium'. This is a good song nonetheless XD
yeah...sounds pretty generic. i love ascendancy and shogun but this song just doesn't do it for me. i'm not gonna rule out the rest of the album though.

Most of the comments I've seen are from fans who don't like this specific song. There's nothing wrong with voicing your disapproval of a song, especially if you're a fan of the band.
I liked the video, but the song is really bland and repetitive. Generic sounding. Huge step back from the material on Shogun. I'm sure the rest of the album will make up for it though.
Really catchy song and really looking forward to this album.
I thought I read somewhere that Matt Heafy or someone in the band said 'In Waves' sounds completely different from the rest of the album? You can't really judge an album off one song, guys.
I like how everyone generalizes the video so much, if you really read into it there is a lot there. I prefer these artistic videos over normal ones. Love the song, pre-ordered the album, gonna be ****ing fantastic.
I didnt like the video, come on, it is a concept video I know, but why in the **** is just this: guys in the water, walk a little in the forest, then... are the guys again in the water? now in the fores- what the...? theres a creepy guy lol, more forest... thats it.... emmm?
The song is repetitive but i will wait for the full album to judge
i should have buyed shogun to regognize their return to shitty metalcore. And when In Waves is sooo different to rest of the album I can't see why it's the first single.
crappy
Im not going to judge the rest of the album from one song, I look at it like this… The crusade, the first song they let the public hear first was detonation. In my opinion one of / worst song on the album… Shogun a quality album the first song everyone heard was Kirisute Gomen… Out of all the songs on shogun I'm not that fussed on that one, the rest are all dynamite…
Don't rule them out just yet I'm sure it will be good!

I do agree with you, but this tough staring is a little too much. I always liked their music but this is not necessary. Please be normal again and don't try to look very tough.
Love it. I'll never hear the song the same again. It's like someone telling you to listen to Secret Agent Man and then saying 'Secret Asian Man'
Song ruined/improved forever.
Found the song to be over repetitive and pretty dull. Did like the chorus though. Also didn't mind the video. It was.....interesting, to say the least.
Looking forward to the album, hope it kicks some ass.
video blows. makes no sense for the songs content. its good they tried something different than just playing on stage but it fell through to say the least. dont mind the song at all.
