Trivium: 'Kirisute Gomen' Online

"Kirisute Gomen", the first track from Trivium's new album "Shogun", will be available for 24 hours as an MP3 download from all Roadrunner and Trivium web sites from Thursday, July 31 at midnight EST (5:00 a.m. UK time).

The download precedes two upcoming single releases. August 11 will see the digital release of "Into The Mouth Of Hell We March", which is also featured on the "Madden NFL 09" soundtrack, and September 1 sees the digital release of "Down From The Sky".

Trivium last week shot a video for "Down From The Sky" with director Ramon Boutviseth. Guitarist Corey Beaulieu told UK's Rock Sound magazine, "We want to make a video that will crush every single music video we have ever made. We want this video to capture our energy and establish us as a bunch of hot, tanned guys from Florida with baby arms in our pants."

According to MTV, Boutviseth got his big break when he won Papa Roach's "Make Your Own 'Forever' Video" contest in June 2007. While the Roach had already shot their own performance video, they were so taken by his submission they asked him to mix the live footage with his original storyline. Boutviseth has also shot videos for Trivium's "Becoming The Dragon", Sanctity's "Beneath The Machine" and "Beloved Killer", Seemless' "Cast No Shadow" and Daylight Dies' "Lies That Bind".

The third webisode featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the new Trivium album, "Shogun", can be viewed here.

Trivium tapped Colin Richardson (Slipknot, Machine Head, Fear Factory, Bullet For My Valentine, Napalm Death) to mix "Shogun", which is scheduled for release on September 30 via Roadrunner Records. The CD was mixed in London, with Jeff Rose and Martin "Ginge" Ford assisting on engineering duties.

"Shogun" track listing:

01. Kirisute Gomen
02. Torn Between Scylla And Charybdis
03. Down From The Sky
04. Insurrection
05. Into The Mouth Of Hell We March
06. Throes Of Perdition
07. He Who Spawned the Furies
08. Of Prometheus And The Crucifix
09. The Calamity
10. Like Callisto To A Star In Heaven
11. Shogun

Trivium reportedly wrote around 40 songs last year and demoed the best 15 or so before commencing the new LP recording sessions. "When we went in, we thought, 'Hey, these songs are good enogh for the album already,' but we've overhauled almost everything," Heafy told Revolver magazine. "Nick has encouraged us to explore so many new ideas that we never would have thought of."

In a previous interview with Revolver, guitarist Corey Beaulieu stated about the upcoming CD, "We want to capture the best ingredients of everything we've done. Each song has a little bit of everything, going between something heavy and then melodic, and then back to something heavy. So it has a really interesting balance. On 'The Crusade', Matt did almost all singing, so this time we're bringing back some of the screaming that's on [2005's] 'Ascendancy'."

Thanks for the report to Blabbermouth.net.

Hm...here's the thing.

If you don't like a band, that's perfectly fine. Perhaps you don't care for an album or two, whatever, that's cool. But automatically deciding to pass something by that you may actually like because it's a certain band, without even hearing it, makes you look like a total jackass, in my opinion.

I really liked Trivium when I first saw their album art and heard their music, but when I saw Heafy in some interviews. I started to dislike the band just because of the frontman.

I like their music, but Heafy is just... he comes across as kinda stubborn and "know-it-all" type of guy. He seems to take everything way to seriously. Unlike Corey who I really take a liking to. He's the kinda "hey man, let's shred" kinda guy that you just cant really dislike. I also think the fact that Heafy is trying to make the album all japanese when he's bloody american really.

And then he's adding Greek gods to his japanese album!? Kind of silly I think, but I'll always dig Trivium's music. It's kind of a step up from all the other Metalcore. Actually Trivium's the only Metalcore band I think are good. It's just kinda different. Maybe it's heafy's scream (which isn't actually that bad, but he should try some growls).

heafy is half japanese u cock, and japanese mythology is pretty damn deep and interesting, better than most of the generic crap that modern metal bands put into their lyrics. I also wouldn't really describe trivium as metal-core either. I think they're pretty much te most 'metal' mainstream kinda band out there.

Kirisute Gomen means = “authorisation to cut” or “authorisation to leave” (the body of the victim)look on wikipedia

and the song comes out at 12.01 a.m in the UK not 5 a.m look on triviums website!

anyway lookin forward 2 it!

Kiri sute gomen (斬り捨て御免 or 切り捨て御免: literally, “authorisation to cut” or “authorisation to leave” (the body of the victim) is an old Japanese expression dating back to the feudal era right to execute and be excused. Samurai had the right to strike at anyone of a lower class who was compromising their honour.

The expression is still sometimes used in modern day as "I apologise in advance for this one" for the subtle humour in offering what amounts to a unsympathetic apology.

I agree with you, especially about Corey's attitude to the music, its really healthy, but I dont think Matts quite as bad as you make out, he's pretty cool too. P.S Cant wait for the new album, if its anything like Ascendancy and The Crusade its gonna in the words of Paulo Gregoletto "Kick People's asses in the face" lol

Why does everyone think it's a sin for a metal band to have a singer that can sing. Screaming sucks. Matt is just singing his own way and to me he sounds like a mix of various singers that actually sing. He doesn't sound exactly like James Hetfield. Similar yes but that's not a bad thing. I liked The Crusade and I think it's the best they've done so far.

Wow Trivium is basically Metallica with nonsense lyrics and loud, unecessary, and totally random screaming.

This song is much better than say, Ascendancy, though. But seriously, do any of their songs make ANY sense at all? Whatever, they have a good beat.

I doubt you will pay that much attention to the lyrics anyway, and some people may learn something from it. I can only see that as a good thing.

ON the first listen through I thought "Well, it certainly kicked my ass right in the face moreso than a lot of metal, but I hope the rest of the album is an improvement". And I guess that's always the way it's been with Trivium, the first Ember to Inferno songs weren't as good as the later and the same with the Crusade and more or less Ascendancy (in my opinion). But after listening through it several times I've really warmed up to their style of musical expression this time around and am really psyched. Hopefully the screaming isn't all that dominant.

In reply to others above:
I completely agree with the depth comment about Ascendancy and Crusade.
Matt Heafy does not really sound very much at all like James Hetfield.
Trivium can call their songs whatever they so please.
Trivium can sing about whatever they want in the songs that they named whatever they wanted to.
Trivium's lyrics do make sense, but they take some thinking about and even then, a lot of them are really cryptic and such. Somewhat hard to decipher, even after many playthroughs.

And as a last comment: their Maiden tribute was fantastic, a true winner in my thinking. That album was a dream come true for me as my four favorite bands for several years now have been Iron Maiden, Trivium, Metallica, and Dream Theater. Everything right in one tight package!
(Can't wait for the Tablature for this song as it's a little too difficult for me to figure out some of the chord lines and especially the solo)

lol if there was iron maiden sounding music in there it got slurred into the abyss of lameness, i thought the whole song was dull (seemed to lack any memorable moments), lacked any inspiration to myself and screaming sounded forced like an old man on his death bed grasping for air and although that scenario sounded metal trivium is not.

Isn't that the whole point of metalcore? They did plenty of that on Ascendancy and it was good. That first cut into the chorus is real bad though. it doesn't sit well at all.

Additionally, in their little studio vids for Shogun they always seem to be playin 7's. And this song is on 7's. Is this gonna be an all 7 string album? anyone know? If so, I'm buying a seven string!

Yeah same. That song felt a lot like a crusade song to me, with a little screaming. Actually the song was really nothing special. Trivium's standards have really dropped if this is what the rest of the album is going to soundlike. I think they'll be ok though. They gained a lot of popularity by doing the Crusade. Those will be the fans of this album. The fans of Ascendancy and Embe r to Inferno will probably take this as the ultimate gaurantee the old Trivium is gone.
