On Tuesday, June 24th, five NYC public school seniors will be honored as this year’s recipients of “The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Foundation Scholarship Fund” at the Tweed Courthouse.
The scholarship recipients, each from one of the five boroughs, will meet with Chancellor of Education Joel I. Klein, and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, Joel Peresman. Mr. Peresman works with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland alongside overseeing the Foundation which is located in New York. The scholarship program, already in its second year, seeks to provide support for students who wish to pursue a career in music at any level.
“
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has numerous educational programs integrating music into courses from toddler age children through college as well as curriculum instruction for educators,” said
Joel Peresman. “
It is our goal to expand these programs and by creating these scholarships both in New York and Cleveland create opportunities for college bound students to pursue an education that includes music and music business related studies.”
These NYC honorees will be awarded $5,000 in scholarships. The winners were chosen based on their essays and financial need. In addition, two seniors from Cleveland, Ohio, home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum, will be presented with $25,000 in scholarships.
This program is part of the Rock Hall’s ongoing pursuit to better integrate music education into the lives of students. From recently receiving the Teacher’s Choice Award for the third year in a row, to their Toddler Rock program, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is at the forefront of bringing popular culture into the classroom and utilizing it to shed light on the music that has changed our world.
