Anthrax Announces New Singer

artist: anthrax date: 12/14/2007 category: press releases
rating: 0 / votes: 0

Anthrax is excited and proud to introduce their new singer, Dan Nelson. Nelson is a virtual unknown, having fronted several local bands in the Long Island/New York area in the past. Says drummer Charlie Benante, "Rob [Caggiano] called me and said, 'I have a singer, you should check him out.' We gave him a shot, and he floored us."

After a successful reunion tour with former singer Joey Belladonna in 2006, there were rumors of recording a new album with that lineup. However, talks fell through and the band was left, once again, without a singer. Enter Dan Nelson.

"I was actually looking for a band," commented Nelson. "Long Island, NY is a pretty dead scene. I was in Unbroken, and through that I met Rob a couple years ago. I had gone through some stuff on a personal side where I took time off from the music. When I got back to the scene, I couldn't find a band, so I contacted Rob through MySpace and offered my services. We sent music back and forth, got together, and jammed for 10 hours straight. After 10 hours, he said, 'I think you'd be right for Anthrax."

"There's no place else I'd rather be right now," Nelson said. "It's a great vibe. I feel great, and I'm ready to go. It's lit that much more of a fire under me. I'm getting to live the dream, and it feels amazing. I can't wait for all these people who think Anthrax is done to be proven wrong. The naysayers are gonna be shut down, and the true blue fans are gonna be pleased."

Guitarist Scott Ian commented on the new singer saying, "It feels great working with Dan. The first time we jammed, we ran through a bunch of old songs, songs from the John Bush/Joey Belladonna eras. Right from the first second Dan started "Room For One More" we knew. We said, 'Now that we've got that, let's work his ass off."

Anthrax, featuring Nelson on vocals, guitarists Ian and Rob Caggiano, bassist Frankie Bello, and drummer Benante, is currently working on all-new material. "We wrote these songs and they fucking kicked ass," says Benante. "It was cathartic. We also want to take our time. This record will be under the microscope, more so than the others. We want to make sure it's 100% perfect."

Also, two classic Anthrax records - "Sound of White Noise" and "Stomp 442" - are going to be available on iTunes on December 18. They will be expanded editions with bonus tracks, and it's the first time the records will be released digitally. The online versions of the albums will also include commentary tracks from the band members themselves!

Anthrax has not yet announced a release date for an upcoming album, but the band is in the middle of the writing process, so stay tuned for more updates!! Be sure to check out "Sound of White Noise" and "Stomp 442" on iTunes beginning December 18!!

I heard a rumor that Corey Taylor (yes, from Slipknot) was going to be doing vocals for them. I am SO glad that it's not true.

aren't they a bit old to be going through the whole new singer thing? i would have thought they'd give up and reunite by now.

There's actually a video on youtube of Corey Taylor playing with them. Think the song was I'm the Man.

they should try to reunite with Neil Turbin. The original singer.

Sound of White Noise and Stomp 442 classic?!?! Do they even listen to Anthrax. Anything after Belladonna left was complete and utter shit. Though I am interested to see how this goes.

I was talking about Anthrax. All of Anthrax's albums after Persistence of Time suck horribly.

Dude, that's bullshit. Stomp 442 was a sick album. Not as good as their classics, but it had some kickass songs.

I hope this guy is someone more like Joey than Bush. Belladonna is the guy that got me into Anthrax and the albums with him were just so great! The person who said that they should get Neil Turbin back, I'd be quite interested to see that too, but I'm sure the new guy is great

New singers never work. Whenever a singer is part of the writing process, the band should change the name when the singer leaves. Otherwise, it's blatent brand-manipulation.

yeah cause the founding members have no say in the band name, only the singers,
this is the most worthless comment i have ever seen on this website, i'm sorry i'm even reacting to it

Well, this is awesome, yet it sucks ass! I've always been a big Anthrax fan- as old as they may be, and im damn happy to see them form something up.. but replacing their old singer? Ahhh! It's like your wife dying and then getting remarried, it just don't work, really. But in the same token, it might just take a while. Rock on

Anjohl wrote on 12/16/2007 - 07:58 pm / quote |
Well, a bands identity is MUCH more linked to a vocalist than to..a bassist or a drummer. Listen to "Red War" by Probot, it sounds a LOT more like Sepultura than the Dante XXI "Sepultura". Who's got more right to the Guns and Roses name, Axl, or Velvet Revolver?
