San Antonio's Blowing Trees splashed onto the national scene with three SXSW showcases, and the group is ready to kick it into high gear as they prepare for their Official CD Release Party Saturday, April 26th at The Revolution Room. Celebrating their March 18th national debut on New York’s Glassnote Records, the show falls in the midst of a ferocious spring that has the band challenging the vastness of the Lonestar State.
Blowing Trees, comprised of lifelong friends Chris Maddin (vocals, keys, guitar), Edwin Stephens (lead guitar), Drew Pierce (drums), and bassist Roy Scavone, plays a powerful style of indie-rock that is both captivating and exciting. With influences ranging from The Flaming Lips to Bob Dylan, the Central-Texan quartet has managed to find that rare, delicate balance of intelligent lyricism and an explosive sound. While the new album showcases their instrumental technicality and Maddin’s versatile voice, a live show demonstrates their ability to tear the roof off any venue.
After debuting at 116 in the CMJ top Music 200, “The Day the World Left Me,” the single off the self-titled album, continues gain momentum and is currently being spun on college radio stations from coast to coast. Additionally, the video for the single is now available for viewing online and can be seen at Blowingtreesmusic.com.
Having already gathered praise from XM radio’s Ethel, ClearChannel.com, and Sirius Radio’s Matt Pinfield (formerly of MTV), Blowing Trees is gaining new fans daily and building on the influx of positive feedback. Following SXSW, the band returned to Austin and played Stubb’s BBQ, bringing down the packed house with a raucous performance.
In addition to the CD Release Party, Blowing Trees will play The San Antonio Current “Best Of” Party on Thursday, April 24th, in the midst of additional Texas dates. This yearly event highlights the alternative publication’s local favorites in a variety of categories and genres and is a great local endorsement for the band.
With the hard work of recording finished for the time being, Blowing Trees can finally turn their focus exclusively towards touring. Determined and dedicated, and with new tour dates being added continuously, the group is dead set on spreading their roots well beyond the friendly confines of Central Texas.
