After wrapping a successful arena tour with Linkin Park, Chiodos--the Flint, MI sextet known for their compelling post-hardcore music--is receiving a strong critical reaction for their powerful live show which continues to flourish as a result of non-stop touring. In his live review for the Hollywood Reporter, Paul Gargano noted that Chiodos was "...memorable with its rough-around-the-edges fusion of...modern rock churning infectiously within progressive metal keyboard trappings and guitar riffs" (March 6, 2008).
Meanwhile, the Oakland Press added, "
With its irregular beats that mix cabaret-style tunes and some classical with heart-stopping screams, the group's sound defies all categorization" (February 18, 2008). Elsewhere Artist Direct hailed, "
Chiodos kicked off the show, bringing a highly energetic set of songs from their breakout hit Bone Palace Ballet. Each scream and note resonated equally, and the band set the stage for a raucous night of rock and roll" (March 6, 2008).
The Linkin Park run included sellout arena shows at Madison Square Garden (2/21) in New York: in front of 18,000 fans Chiodos received an introduction from friends the Trailer Park Boys (of the hit Canadian show and Ivan Reitman film). Other sold out gigs included: the Staples Center (3/4) in Los Angeles in front of 16,232 fans, Qwest Center in Omaha, Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH, 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Bell Centre in Montreal, John Labatt Centre in London, ON, two shows at The Joint in Las Vegas and the E Center in West Valley City, UT.
Chiodos--who released their sophomore album Bone Palace Ballet on indie Equal Vision Records which debuted at #5 on Billboard's Top 200 Album Chart and has sold over 140,000 copies--have announced the premiere of the video for their first single "Lexington (Joey Pea Pot with a Monkey Face)" live today on MySpace. Directed by Josh Graham (Dillinger Escape Plan, Underoath, Isis) and shot in Hollywood, the performance-based clip perfectly displays the piano-driven macabre track which Billboard magazine hailed as "a newfound orchestral and melodic touch with livelier piano driven jaunts that nod to Queen" (9/3/07).
