Coldplay: 'Violet Hill' Video Premiere

Coldplay's  video for "Violet Hill," the first single from the band's upcoming album, Viva La Vida, has been added to the highest rotations at MTV (Big 10), VH1 (large), MTV2 (Elite 8), mtvU (summa cum laude) and MTV Hits (Power).

It will be the first video ever to receive a simultaneous premiere on MTV, VH1 and The N. Lensed by acclaimed director/visual artist Asa Mader, "Violet Hill" premieres on VH1, MTV2, MTV Hits, mtvU, MTV Tr3s and The N on Monday, May 19th, and on MTV's "TRL" on Wednesday, May 21st.

Fans can check out the video online beginning today, May 16th, at 6pm on: MTV.com, VH1.com.

The band will perform "Violet Hill" at the "2008 MTV Movie Awards," which airs live on June 1st at 8:00pm/7c from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA. The single - called a "must have" by Rolling Stone - was downloaded by two million people during the recent one-week period in which Coldplay made the song available to fans for free.

Viva La Vida, the follow-up to 2005's X, which debuted at #1 in 32 countries and has sold 10 million copies worldwide, will be released on June 17th. The band will play free concerts in London (June 16th at the Brixton Academy) and New York (June 23rd at Madison Square Garden). i wasnt a cold play fan, but this song reminds me somehow of a pink floyd sound with the reverbish effect on his voice during the song

I like the song too, I just hate that every time a new Coldplay album comes out, Chris Martin promotes it by saying "The last album was shit, everyone in the band hates that album and all the ones before it, this one is our only good album." < not an exact quote, but basically what he says. If they hate the albums so much, how come "Clocks" won them a Grammy? X&Y was one of the fastest selling albums of all-time, and they still play the songs on tour, because thats what people pay to see?

Two solid pop albums and one indie classic. Parachutes is fantastic.

As for the song...meh. I'll buy the album though.

There are actually two music videos. The second release is very political and shows politicians dancing around and acting stupid, actual video clips from almost every country. The album is politically influenced and sounds very electronic and influenced by Pink Floyd, and U2. They also have a video for the opening track that might have been hacked off the internet, EMI flipped about it being taken. Its called Life in Technicolor and sounds very 80's. Though I like it, I am pleased with the direction they are going in. All of the albums have been great, but the gem truly was Parachutes, and a few gems from A rush of blood to the head. X&Y wasnt the greatest, but it did have a few good ones. It will possibly be a double album. This is a good year for music.
