25-year old Dan Sartain is having a pretty great summer. The Birmingham native is currently wrapping up a U.S. and Canadian tour as hand-picked opener for The White Stripes and after just a one week break, picks up his guitar again for a string of dates with The Detroit Cobras and The Willowz.
Sartains latest album, Join Dan Sartain, was released on Swami Records in 2006 and is currently being marketed by Vagrant in the U.S. and Canada. The Alabama troubadours music is beginning to earn notable recognition, as Rolling Stone magazine recently named Sartain a New Artist To Watch, and said "Join Dan Sartain
modulates classically tuneful confessions with jerky post-punk weirdness, a dollop of rockabilly, and whimsical lyrics about strange dreams, coy little girls, and boys with guns, and AOL's Spinner recently featured one of Dan's songs as MP3 of the Day- you can listen here.
During Sartains current outing with The White Stripes, the Chronicle Herald of Halifax, NS caught his set near the beginning of the tour and said [Sartain] played a set of hotwired, punk-infused swampabilly backed by a guitar/bass/drum trio, full of tales of underage girls and late night tattoo parties, while The Boston Globe claimed Alabama punk-a-billy cult fave Dan Sartain helped heat the room for the headliners.
After touring arenas and other large-capacity venues, Dan Sartain is happy to be in familiar territory on his upcoming tour with The Detroit Cobras. I proved to myself that I could play in front of thousands but Im more comfortable in clubs. It was weird to make the transition to arenas because clubs are natural. Its what you do. Im supposed to play clubs, claims Sartain.
