There’s more good news for Dream Theater, who are making a powerful impact all over the globe as they enjoy the greatest chart success of their 25-year career. Having debuted this week at #6 on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart with Black Clouds & Silver Linings (Roadrunner) - their 10th studio release — the legendary progressive metal masters are now celebrating with a #1 debut on the Billboard European chart and another 10 Top Ten album chart debuts around the world.
Black Clouds & Silver Linings has entered the Top Ten in these countries: Finland (#1), Sweden (#3), Germany (#3), Netherlands (#3), Hungary (#4), Italy (#5), Mexico (#7), Japan (#8), France (#9) and Switzerland (#9).
In addition, the album - an uncompromising work that has been hailed as a "masterpiece" by 411mania.com (June 2009) - debuted in the Top 40 in Spain (#13), Portugal (#14), Australia (#16), the U.K. (#23), Denmark (#27), Poland (#33) and Belgium (#34).
Dream Theater has now sold in excess of 10,000,000 records and DVD's worldwide.
This news comes as Dream Theater - James LaBrie (vocals), John Myung (bass), John Petrucci (guitar, vocals), Mike Portnoy (drums, percussion, vocals) and Jordan Rudess (keyboards, Continuum) - broke records in Europe last month, playing to festival crowds of over 80,000 adoring fans. The band made their debut appearance in Israel last month, rocking a crowd 10,000 strong.
Dream Theater’s own "Progressive Nation" tour returns stateside on July 24 in Miami, and will feature Dream Theater as headliner, Zappa Plays Zappa, Bigelf and Scale The Summit. The North American tour - which marks the second incarnation of Progressive Nation — wraps on August 29 in Los Angeles.
