Fuse & SideOneDummy College Tour With Flogging Molly

artist: flogging molly date: 08/23/2006 category: press releases

fuse and SideOneDummy Records will be invading college campuses across the nation this fall with The SideOneDummy College Tour. Kicking off Sept. 21 at the University of Utah, the genre-blurring tour will feature Irish folk-punkers Flogging Molly, reggae-rockers Bedouin Soundclash and the violin-fueled jams of Zox. In addition, the musical acts will be joined by sketch comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U' Know, whose new series will premiere exclusively on fuse November 7th at 11 p.m. EST.

Having just returned from overseas where they played countless festivals including Fuji Rock and Reading and Leeds, Flogging Molly is one of the most successful touring acts around. Formed by Dublin-born singer/guitarist Dave King in 1997, they have developed a rabid following by melding the traditional Irish folk of King's upbringing with the anarchic punk rock of his adulthood. Their near-legendary live show - a ferocious tornado of fists, beer bottles and stage dives - collide with guitar, fiddle and accordion leaving the sweaty masses in awe. The seven'piece outfit's recently released CD/DVD, Whiskey On A Sunday, contains a feature-length documentary DVD and a CD comprised of 10 new recordings, including an unreleased studio track, "Laura." In its first week it debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top DVD Music Video Chart and at #3 on the Billboard Independent Album Chart.

Bedouin Soundclash has been making international waves with its smooth marriage of reggae, rock and soul as displayed on their sophomore album, Sounding A Mosaic. Back home in Canada they were awarded the Juno Award for "New Group of the Year." This honor follows the huge success of their smash single, "When the Night Feels My Song," which was the number two most played song on Canadian radio last year and the number three video on Much Music. As a result, their album has been certified Gold in Canada.

SideOneDummy's newest signees Zox are no strangers to the road. Averaging more than 200 shows a year, this foursome hailing from Providence, Rhode Island, is well known in their northeastern stomping grounds for their highly original, yet cohesive sound that blends rock, reggae, pop and tinges of classical. Violinist Spencer Swain sets the band apart with his incendiary playing and approaches his instrument with a zeal and attack that rivals many guitarists. The Village Voice called him an "electric-violin virtuoso," adding "[he] channels everyone from Papa John Creach to Eddie Van Halen." The band is touring in support of their sophomore album, The Wait, and just completed a U.S. tour with Rusted Root.

The Whitest Kids U' Know, winners of the 2006 Aspen Comedy Festival Jury Prize, are a five man sketch comedy troupe who will soon bring their hilariously irreverent skits and music video parodies to fuse, when the show launches in November. Since 2003, the quintet has garnered immense popularity in the NYC comedy circuit, especially with their weekly "Sunday School" shows at Piano's, a popular rock club on Manhattan's lower East Side. The group, whose brand of humor is more in line with "Mr. Show" or "Kids in the Hall" than "Saturday Night Live," was recently highlighted by Variety as one of the "10 Comics to Watch" in 2006.

"We are very excited to partner with SideOneDummy and bring fuse to college campuses across the country," commented Catherine Mullen EVP & GM of fuse. "It is this audience that has made the Whitest Kids U' Know a hit online and created the buzz that brought them to fuse - we're excited to give back with a sneak peak at what will be coming up on fuse this fall."
