Gorillaz Release 'D-Sides' Stateside

D-Sides, an assortment of B-sides from Gorillaz' multi-platinum second album Demon Days, early demos and previously unreleased tracks compiled together for the first time, has been confirmed for a November 20 U.S. release on Virgin Records.

D-Sides highlights include "Hong Kong," the lush and lovely track recorded by Gorillaz for Warchild and the surprise hit of last year's Demon Days Live show (given an exclusive refit here with added strings), the dubbed-out collaboration with The Bees, "Bill Murray," and the apocalyptic scum-pop of "We Are Happy Landfill." "Stop The Dams" is another collaboration, this time with the Sugarcubes' Einar Orn, protesting against dam building in Iceland's wilderness.

Demos "People" (which later became Demon Days single "Dare") and "Don't Get Lost in Heaven" give a sneak peek into the band's creative process, while the Mandarin version of "Dirty Harry" provides an insight into how Gorillaz might sound if they'd been born east of the Yangtze instead of deep in the wilds of Essex, while DSides' bonus CD of remixes includes reworkings by DFA, Junior Sanchez and Hot Chip.

A special edition of D-Sides will be available in a debossed glossy dual box, and will include two exclusive Jamie Hewlett prints, a collection of Gorillaz badges, stickers and a "Choose Pazuzu" patch. The track listing will be the same as the standard edition.

D-Sides follows the immensely popular G-Sides, a collection of B-sides and rarities from the band's debut album, Gorillaz.

In addition to the the album release, other news from the Gorillaz camp includes Murdoc's new foray into Facebook, on which fans can view photo albums of the virtual star, including childhood Murdoc pictures. The Gorillaz were fairly popular after Feel Good Inc. came out. Their other singles didn't do nearly as well, but they got plenty of airtime.

And as far as name recognition goes, I'd say 8 out of 10 people would know who they were... ask about the Blur and most people would just scratch their heads.

I like em alot. Demonm Days is a cool CD, lots of good songs on it. Its great to hear new songs from em, even if they are demos and b-sides. Now that Damon joined up with The Godd The Bad and The Queen, i dont see any more Gorillaz for a while at leasty if ever.

My cousin was really in to this band at one time. .. Honestly the album demon days sounds like a collection of B-sides to me. (sorry to all you Gorrilaz enthusiasts) I only liked maybe 2 of the songs off the album, the rest were ..lets say a little to avant-garde for me.

How are Gorillaz boring? As far as I'm concerned Damon Albarn is making some of the best music out there with this group. I think he said he is creating the soundtrack for a Gorillaz movie, which will also be the final album for them. If you like Gorillaz, you should check out Damon's other side project The Good, the Bad, & the Queen; they rock hard. It's hard to compare this music to Blur since the sound is entirely different, but I have to say that I honestly prefer Gorillaz.

Seriously though. I became a fan of the Gorillaz completely by accident. I'm not even sure how it happened. I've always loved Blur, but what got me hooked on the Gorillaz was the characters.....
