Guitar Idol: World's First Online Guitar Final At LIMS

The final of the World's first online guitar competition will be held at The London International Music Show (LIMS) on Saturday 14th June.

The winner of Guitar Idol will receive masses of prizes but none so great as the honour of opening for the most technically accomplished and respected guitar player in the history of rock music – Joe Satriani.

Joe, who regularly tops polls as the World’s best guitarist in leading guitar magazines, says: “I’m looking for new players all the time, and it’s very hard - believe it or not! This is great for me because I can approach the winner and say ‘hey, let’s do something, let’s take you somewhere, let’s help you climb to the top,’. So that’s great - I’m really looking forward to it!

For full interview go over here.

Budding guitarists – and not just Satriani fans - are invited to either submit their own original composition ( closing date 25th may ) or play over some fantastic downloadable backing tracks. The backing tracks are in a wide variety of styles and all designed to highlight guitar excellence. Entries should be kept to around three minutes and uploaded online.

The ten players who gain the highest votes from the public and the panel will be invited to perform in front of thousands of guitar fans at The London Guitar Show on Saturday June 14th and will be judged by a panel of top industry professionals.

Already and over 130,000 visitors have been onto the site, running up over a million page views since launch and this is climbing rapidly every day.

To me whenever I see a Matt Rach video he just looks like he is a robot, not really feeling the music enough. Whereas Gustavo Guerra is not only technically gifted but looks REALLY into the music while playing. Therefore Gustavo gets my vote.

mattrach is feeling his music, his face is just like that its not his fault that it looks robotic.

matt rach doesnt deserve top spot, top 10 yes, ill give him that, even 5, but Gustavo should definitely win, he shows way more passion, and plays things just as hard as matt yet just smiles through it all, and then still plays song that need more feel than shred and pulls it off just as well, in other words, GUSTAVO SHOULD WIN TOP SPOT!

I sincerely hope so. I think Michael Akerfeldt should be up there. There's more to being good than speed or technicality. Michael can do both blazing fast technical guitar playing and slow, beautiful bluesy/jazzy guitar playing. That's what I look for in a guitarist.

On topic, this is online so it's probably going to be a bunch of prog-metal elitists who spend their time between anime episodes learning Dream Theater covers. Just an educated guess, lol

I too am voting for Matt Rach, I still remember when I found out about him around a year ago, I've been waiting for him to hit it big ever since. This Gurra guy is good, but honestly that whole smile thing jsut pisses me off.

And yeah, Satch is the best. Just as good as Hendrix, Van Halen, freakin' taught Vai. He has plenty of slow blues songs, so don't even start witht hat mindless shreding stuff. I've never seen anyone put MORE soul into music.

Pure bullshit, plain and simple. You don't have to say Satch is better or the best, but to say he's not even close to Hendrix or the top is flat out retarded and ignorant.

How can they say that, sure he MIGHT be, but it's all subjective. I can think of many guitarists equally as good or better than Satch.

I think hes one of the most technically accomplished players there is, i wouldn't call him undisputed king....
but i'm sure if you put him up against your favourite guitarist i'm sure he'd be able to hold his own.
you have to look at the whole picture, TECHNICALLY accomplished, not just awesome.
SRV was great, but i never saw him doing full out legato, or tapping.
Steve Vai is WAY up there, he's like "woah..."

i guess you never heard hendrix at all... you're are probably the most ignorant person i've seen in years

get over yourself will ya?

Jimi Hendrix is No.1 most overrated guitarist
and yes I have heard of him, I've seen videos of him live and i've got quite a bit of his music.

He's alright and at his time he was a revolutionary but these days he's fair average. There are so many more skilled and IMO better sounding guitarists out there such as Vai, Buckethead, Matt Bellamy, Dimebag and these are some of the more mainstream ones instead of the huge amount of amazing underground guitarists.

Satch is a good kid though, glad to hear what he's trying to do. I'll give it a shot next year maybe haha
